CoreMatrix® Diamond Impregnated Bits

Each unique matrix is designed to cover a wide range of ground conditions, including:

• Soft to ultra-hard formations (Mohs Hardness Scale – 1 to 10).
• Competent, fractured, or broken formations.
• Abrasive or non-abrasive conditions.

Each matrix is made up of premium components (alloys, diamonds, and powders) to achieve maximum performance and withstand the demands of modern drilling, including high penetration, torque, and load.

All matrices are designed to target a specific rock formation. The CoreMatrix line is engineered to perform in different drilling conditions, depending on rock hardness, abrasiveness, penetration rate, and required bit life.

A few of the matrix selections we have available include:

• General-purpose matrices: perfect starting matrix with an ideal balance between penetration rate and bit life.
• “A” matrices for abrasive formations: optimal for abrasive rock formations.
• “E” matrices for extended bit life: an ideal solution when extended bit life is required.
• “F” matrices for free-cutting matrices: an ideal solution for drilling at high penetration rates.

The crown profiles are designed for various drilling conditions, including the type of rock formation (composition, hardness, abrasiveness), drill rig configuration, and required penetration rate and bit life. Selecting a proper crown profile is critical to maximizing bit performance and ensuring no damage occurs down the hole.

CoreMatrix crown profiles are standardized on three waterway configurations:

STANDARD Waterway

• General-purpose design for competent, broken, abrasive, and non-abrasive formations.
• Allows for maximum matrix volume and face contact area.
• Requires mid to high-power drill rigs to operate.
• Delivers maximum bit life.

PIE SHAPED Waterway

• Superior flushing capability.
• Suitable for mixed formations containing both broken and competent zones.
• More difficult conditions that require increased fluid flow (coarse-grained, fractured, and broken).
• Requires mid-power drill rigs to operate.
• Perfect balance between penetration rate and bit life.

TURBO Waterway

• High productivity with reduced contact area, allowing for increased penetration rates.
• High performance (free cutting) under low weight on the bit.
• Suitable for competent formations.
• Requires low to mid-power drill rigs to operate.
• Delivers maximum penetration rate.

For more difficult conditions, crown profiles are available with additional configurations to meet special drilling requirements.

Crown Height

Our bits are manufactured with crown heights of 10mm, 13mm, 16mm, 20mm, and 26mm.

Wide ID Opening

• For STANDARD and PIE SHAPED Waterway.
• More difficult conditions that require increased fluid flow (coarse-grained, fractured, and broken).
• Reduced contact area allows for increased penetration rates.

SUPERFLUSH (Deep ID) Opening

• For STANDARD, PIE SHAPED, and TURBO Waterway.
• Conditions with unconsolidated/broken formations.
• Lost circulation conditions that require heavier muds.
• Designed for improved water flow with minimized flushing of the core sample.

BIT FACE DISCHARGE

• For STANDARD, PIE SHAPED, and TURBO Waterway.
• Difficult conditions where the core sample is susceptible to washing.

Penetration Index – RPC (RPI)

This calculation helps assess whether the impregnated bit is being optimized in relation to RPM and ROP.
RPC (RPI) = RPM/ROP

e.g.

RPC = 1200 RPM / 15 cm = 80 rotations per centimeter

RPI = 1200 RPM / 6 inches = 200 rotations per inch

A good target is 80 – 100 RPC (200 – 250 RPI)
