    Caustic Soda Beads

Caustic soda beads (sodium hydroxide (NaOH)) are strong alkalis used to increase the alkalinity and pH of the liquid phase.

The type of drilling fluid and the additives used can influence how much caustic soda is required to achieve a desired pH level. Refer to the chart below for product-specific guidelines.

Note: Additions made to water with a 7.0 pH.

Mixing & Handling of Caustic Soda Beads

Caustic soda beads, also referred to as sodium hydroxide beads, are a powerful alkali that forms a highly basic solution. When this lye solution comes into contact with water and moisture, it reacts by generating heat.

Caustic Soda Beads are highly corrosive and can cause severe burns, so extreme care is required when working with sodium hydroxide. Avoid any contact with the skin or eyes. Use a protective apron, gloves, eye protection, full clothing, and a face mask to prevent exposure.

If a caustic soda solution comes into contact with your skin, rinse the affected area with water immediately for 15 minutes. If the burning sensation continues or the area becomes inflamed, seek medical attention.

*DANGER* Always add Caustic Soda to a water solution and watch for splashing and bubbling.
