LTR can be used in cement slurries as either a dispersant in cement to increase compressive strength or as a retarder to delay the setting of the cement.
LTR is effective with all Portland cements and generally added in concentrations from 0.1% and 2.5% by weight of cement. The sodium lignosulfonates are most effective at bottom hole circulating temperatures up to 60°C.
The addition of small amounts of boric or citric acid can increase the temperature application range to 100°C.
