Fluids may be filtered through Activated Carbon or the Activated Carbon may also be added directly to a contaminated fluid to remove impurities. It is advisable to use a dust mask and eye protection while mixing all powdered products.

Earth Pro Can-Break ECA can be added directly to the mud system through the mixing hopper. It is advisable to use a dust mask and eye protection while mixing all powdered products. 

In case of contact, immediately flush with copious amounts of water. Flush eyes with flowing water immediately and continuously for 20 minutes. 

See a physician if necessary. Remove contaminated clothes and shoes. Wash clothes before re-use. Employ eye and skin protection when handling this product.

Under normal conditions, for a program with a corrosion level of +25 mpy, initially add one pail of Earth Pro Corinox per 16m³ of fluid to be treated. Sever corrosion may require higher concentrations.

To assess the requirement of Earth Pro Corinox in any condition, it is best to use a corrosion rate method such as corrosion ring analysis or an instantaneous corrosion monitor. 

If high corrosion rates persist and are determined to be oxygen related, supplemental additions of an oxygen scavenger such as sodium sulfite should be made to the system

Earth Pro Liquipac should be added slowly (30-40 minutes per pail) through the hopper or at point of agitation. Caution: It is slippery when spilt on the floor. See MSDS for handling and disposal.

Earth Pro Poly-Xan disperses in water with moderate agitation. Continued mixing provides a smooth viscous fluid. It should be added slowly to the active system to avoid lumping or fish-eyes, which may occur if the polymer is not allowed to properly disperse.

Earth Pro Red Dye comes in two water-soluble packets (1kg each) sealed in a ziplock plastic bag. After removing from the outer ziplock bag, the pigments can be added directly to the displacement fluid. A small amount of agitation will keep the colorant suspended.

Normal safety precautions should be used for handling dusty materials to prevent ingestion or eye irritation. Care should be taken to avoid contact with skin and clothing, as pigment tends to color everything it touches.

  • Improves rheological properties (lowers plastic viscosity)
  • Not effected by electrolyte type or concentrations of water phase

For maximum effectiveness Earth Pro XL-Defoamer should be added directly to the fluid system as close to the point of foaming (e.g. shale shaker) as possible. It may also be sprayed over the fluid through a wash gun diluted in a mineral oil mixture if necessary (e.g. over mud tanks).

Earth Pro XL-Defoamer may cause irritation to the skin and eyes. Use rubber gloves, rubber apron, mask and eye protection when using this and other liquid mud additives.

In case of skin contact, wash with water as required. In case of eye contact, wash with water for at least fifteen minutes and seek medical attention if necessary. Although stable, do not store Earth Pro XL-Defoamer near strong oxidizing agents.

Alcomer 755 / Zetag 7557 should be added through a chemical barrel at the flow line or injected directly into a centrifuge from a premixed polymer tank, usually in a 0.5% stock solution.

Add an appropriate organic or inorganic coagulant before adding Alcomer 755 / Zetag 7557. It can also be used for fluid clarification when added at the centrifuge in sumpless drilling operations.

Mix directly into the hopper at 30 minutes per sack or add (with agitation) to a chemical barrel or polymer-mixing tank. Avoid mixing too rapidly. A mask and goggles should be worn to prevent inhalation of dust and contact with eyes.

Alkapam A-1103D becomes very slippery when coming in contact with water. A spill should be cleaned up with an absorbent material.

Aquabloc HT mixes readily and may be added to a mud system through the hopper at 10-15 minutes per sack. It is advisable to use a dust mask and eye protection while mixing all powdered products.

Calcium Nitrate can be added through the hopper or pre-dissolved in water in the chemical barrel prior to being added. Note that in the presence of excess hydroxide concentration, ammonia gas will be liberated.

Ammonia gas will irritate the nose, throat and respiratory system and can cause eye injury. It is advisable to use a dust mask and eye protection while mixing all powdered products. Store securely away from combustible materials and reducing agents.

Drilstar HT mixes readily. It may be added through the hopper at rates of 5-10 minutes per sack when required. It is advisable to use a dust mask while it is being mixed.

Emul-Break can be added directly to the mud on surface or through the mixing system. Avoid inhalation of vapors. Do not get on skin, in eyes or on clothing. Keep container closed when not in use. Wear suitable protection for eyes and skin when handling. Use with adequate ventilation. Avoid contact with incompatible materials.

Store in cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from sources of heat, ignition and sparks. Use proper grounding techniques if product is classed as flammable or combustible. Avoid using natural rubber, use neoprene.

*Caution*: Emul-Break is a surface-active demulsifier. It is a respiratory and digestive tract irritant that should be handled with care.

Gilsonite is relatively stable and of low hazard. However it should not be stored or used near strong oxidizing agents such as chlorates, nitrates or peroxides. Excessive dust is subject to combustion or explosion upon contact with spark or open flame. Use good industrial hygiene practice to avoid eye and excess skin contact. Wear a protective dust mask and goggles when handling and mixing.

Glide Graph is added to the mud system through the mud-mixing hopper. Because it is extremely fine, it is recommended that a dust mask and goggles be worn while the graphite is being mixed.

Note: Glide Graph will have the same effect as ball bearings on any hard surface. Post warning signs if spilled and sweep up immediately.

Mix directly through the mud hopper. Addition of Caustic Soda (or equivalent) will be required to maintain the pH at 9.0 or higher. It is advisable to use a dust mask and other approved protection apparel while mixing all powdered products.

Mix directly into the hopper at 30 minutes per sack or add (with agitation) to a chemical barrel or polymer-mixing tank. Avoid mixing too rapidly. A mask and goggles should be worn to prevent inhalation of dust and contact with eyes.

Hyperdrill AF 204RD becomes very slippery when wet. A spill should be cleaned up with an absorbent material.

Mix Hyperdrill NF 301H slowly into a chemical barrel or polymer mixing tank and allow product to hydrate (approximately 1 hour). Avoid mixing too rapidly. Wear a mask and goggles to prevent dust inhalation and contact with eyes.

Hyperdrill NF 301H becomes very slippery when it comes in contact with water, therefore spills should be cleaned up with an absorbent material instead of water.

Solution preparation in pH neutral waters is rapid; however, attention to water temperature is necessary as cold waters require a much longer hydration time.

In high pH waters Natrosol Hi-Vis will dissolve much faster regardless of water temperature, however this is not recommended. Laboratory testing is recommended for loading confirmation and application. This HEC is compatible in fresh water, sea water, and salt solutions up to
saturation.

Prima-Seal is a lost circulation material, which may be used by itself or in conjunction with other lost circulation additives.

Generally, its use may be based on the following criteria:

  • Prima-Seal Coarse - seals large fractures, requires large jets (16 mm or larger) or an open watercourse.
  • Prima-Seal Medium - seals fine fractures and porous zones, should be used with jets larger than 10.3 mm.

Depending on the severity, the total lost circulation material concentration may be as high as 75.0 kg/m³ of whole mud.

Sodium Sulfite - Catalyzed readily decomposes. It is usually added at a concentration of one to two sacks to a barrel of water. After mixing, the mixture is covered with a 10.0-15.0 cm blanket of mineral oil to minimize absorption of oxygen from the air. It is then slowly pumped into the central stream of the mud pump suction with an injection pump. Wear suitable protection for eyes and skin when handling. Use in areas with adequate ventilation.

  • Microtox threshold that exceeds normal use concentrations
  • More efficient than regular starches
  • Nearly as efficient as cellulosics at controlling fluid loss
  • Non-fermenting and requires no biocide under normal conditions

T-352 Biocide is corrosive and will cause irreversible eye damage. Wear suitable protection for eyes and skin and ensure there is adequate ventilation in the mixing area.

Torq-Trol W can be added directly to the active mud system at any point of agitation.

As a cure for lost circulation, mix Walnut into the mud or in a lost circulation pill in concentrations of 10.0-30.0 kg/m³. It is advisable to use a dust mask and eye protection while mixing all powdered products.

Zinc Carbonate can be added directly to the mud hopper. It is advisable to use a dust mask and eye protection while mixing all powdered products.

Barite (20.4μ) has two major functions in cementing operations:

Weighting Agent - Used where high pore pressures, unstable wellbores and deformable plastic formations are controlled by high hydrostatic pressures. Slurries with densities of up to 2280 kg/m³ (19.0 lbs/gal) can be prepared with Barite to control such wells.

Plugs - A Barite plug will seal the wellbore due to the high hydrostatic head pressure of the slurry. In addition the Barite slurry has a high filtrate loss causing it to dehydrate rapidly forming a plug. The viscosity and yield point of the Barite slurry must be kept low if the Barite is to settle and form a plug.

A table outlining the general effect of calcium chloride upon the thickening time and compressive strength is presented below. Results are based on an 1872 kg/m³ API Class A cement slurry.

Oilfield Cementing: Typical concentration can vary from 0.5% to 2% BWOC. CRM-22B has a synergistic effect on slurry fluid loss control. It can be used to disperse weighted slurries up to 2250 kg/m³, but addition of this product to low-density slurries may result in a large excess of free water and particle segregation.

Excessive dispersant loading can lead to slurry disintegration, severely retarded set and possible bridging off mid-job. This is typical of cement
dispersants, and laboratory testing should be carried out before recommending for field use. CRM-22B is not recommended at temperatures exceeding 60°C.

Earth Pro Defoamer Powder is non-hazardous. Store in a cool dry place and away from incompatible materials. Earth Pro Defoamer Powder components may cause irritation to sensitive skin areas. Wear the appropriate safety goggles and protective equipment when handling this product.

Wear a mask and goggles while mixing Guar Gum HP 4501P to prevent dust inhalation and contact with eyes. Guar Gum HP 4501P becomes very slippery when it comes in contact with water, therefore spills should be cleaned up with an absorbent material instead of water.

Industrial Moulding Plaster is typically dry blended in the cement. For further handling and safety instructions consult Material Safety Data Sheet.

Metso 66’s unique formulation reduces or eliminates the need for transport or handling of any flammable or hazardous fluids on the rig site (diesel fuel, solvents, and other related components).

By using Metso 66, disposal costs are further reduced. The recommended loading is 5-6 bags of Metso 66 per m³ of water (fresh or sea water). Laboratory testing is recommended to determine the precise loading for general use or specific well situations. Fluid contact time within the wellbore is most important.

Sufficient fluid volume with the recommended Metso 66 loading is necessary for complete removal of oil-based materials and reversal to a water-wet condition. This volume will vary depending on depth, and hole-pipe configuration. Metso 66 can also be used as a spacer for water- based mud removal to improve cement-to-pipe and cement-to-formation bonding.

OGC-60 is not known to be toxic. Normal precautions for handling dusty products should be used for handling this product.

Salt mixes readily with water and can be mixed directly into the water.

Silica Fume (Undensified) is very stable and is not susceptible to fire, explosion or decomposition. The finely divided dust may cause eye and respiratory irritation. Use good industrial hygiene practice and wear goggles and a dust mask when handling the material.

Sodium Glucoheptonate is not hazardous. Avoid excessively humid conditions. Store in a cool dry place. Avoid inhalation or ingestion of product.

Stimpro 763 is a flammable liquid. Use good industrial safety procedures when handling this material.

The product is corrosive and requires special handling procedures. Refer to Material Safety Data Sheets for handling instructions.

Tru-Bore loses effectiveness in hard, low pH or salt water. To achieve the maximum yield of 240-260 bbl, the make up water should be treated with soda ash (sodium carbonate) to a pH of 8.0-9.0. Do not use salt water since it cannot be treated.

Fill available tanks with fresh water and apply maximum agitation to allow for quicker dispersion and hydration of initial application. Slowly add 1 kg Sand Stabilizer to 1000 L of water and allow to hydrate at maximum shear in the tank for 5 mins.

While pumping mixture down, add an additional 2 kg/m³ as close to the suction point as possible to allow for semi hydrated polymers to reach formation. As the semi hydrated polymers are hydrated in or on the surface of the formation, they will form a securing polymer matrix that will halt further sloughing and collapse.

Regular drilling applications in potential sloughing sand and loose overburden should be met with 2 kg/1000 L of water of Sand Stabilizer mixed and hydrated in the surface tanks like normal drilling polymers.

Regular semi hydrated sweeps of Sand Stabilizer may also benefit broken ground conditions. Sweep by adding .5 kg of drill Sand Stabilizer at a point close to the suction in the mud tanks while pumping

As a flocculant Hyperdrill AD 855 can be added directly to the flow line, or it may be dispersed in water in the chemical barrel prior to adding to the flow line. Hyperdrill AD 855 is very slippery if spilled. A spill should be cleaned up with an absorbent material. (Do not add water to a spill).

Handling: Minimize skin contact. Wash with soap and water before eating, drinking, smoking, or using toilet facilities. Bags and containers of this material may be hazardous when emptied. Empty containers retain product residues.

Storage: prevent absorption of moisture and possible caking. Store in a cool, dry place. Do not store with cyanides, sulfides, chlorine, hypochlorous acid, hypochlorites or alkalis.

General Comments: Treat as a strong acid

Handling: The product is not considered dangerous and requires no special handling

Earth Pro pH Up Soda Ash is only partially soluble in water so prehydrating or attempting to dissolve it in water and then add it to a system will result in minimal benefit. Earth Pro pH Up Soda Ash is best added dry either through a mixing hopper or mechanically dispersed (sprinkled) over the top of the fluid surface or added at a point of agitation. 

In make up water or to treat contamination from cement, anhydrite or to treat out Ca+ from floc water the flowing guideline is used if hardness can be measured. 

  • 350 mg/L calcium ions requires 1.0 kg/m³ of Earth Pro pH Up Soda Ash

If total hardness or calcium can not be measured at the time of treatment or if blindly pretreating make up water for premixing, add Earth Pro pH Up Soda Ash in 0.5 kg/m³ increments until pH is 8.5 - 9.0. Do not exceed 3 kg/m³ without being able to physically determine the effectiveness of the addition either through chemical tests or general analysis of the mud. Over-treatment of Earth Pro pH Up Soda Ash can result in carbonate alkalinity and consequent excessive gel strengths and problems due to increased fluid loss. 

The product is corrosive and requires special handling procedures. Refer to Material Safety Data Sheet for handling instructions.

Recommended monovalent brine concentration is <20,000 mg/L TDS and multivalent ion concentration <2,000 mg/L TDS.

The Hydrolift-2 is an electrically powered automatic actuator for use with the Standard Flow, High Flow and Low Flow Inertial pumping systems.

The Hydrolift-2 is fully adjustable and will adapt to almost any size casing or protective well casing and can also be used with flush grade well completions. The Hydrolift-2 supports the inertial pump tubing and also anchors the discharge end of the tubing facilitating sample collection.

The High Flow System is considerably heavier than the Standard Flow System and consequently is not nearly as suitable for manual operation. The High Flow System can be manually operated in monitoring wells up to a maximum depth of about 60 feet depending on the operators strength and endurance. 

It is recommended to use an automated actuator with the High Flow System. The Hydrolift-2, PowerPack-PP1 or PowerPump-2 are all recommended for use with the High Flow System

The Micro Flow System is usually hand operated.

EcoBailers are made of clear virgin PVC with a density of 1.31 whereas most disposable bailers are made of polyethylene which has a specific gravity of 0.96 to 0.98. PVC is also transparent whereas polyethylene is translucent, because of this, when you use the EcoBailer you can inspect your sample while it's still in the bailer. 

Clear PVC EcoBailers are easily adapted to the FHT-45 Disposable Groundwater Filter for collection of samples for metals analysis directly from the bailer. A short length of 1/4" OD or 1/2” OD LDPE tubing along with the bottom emptying spout can be used to easily connect the FHT-45 or FMT-45 inline disposable groundwater filter to the bailer. This allows the bailed sample to flow by gravity directly through the filter and into a sample container. In many cases a 1 liter sample can be filtered in under 2 minutes using this method.

These bailers are designed with a special valve and valve seat to provide more positive sealing and less clogging when removing the bailer from the well. All bailers come with the handy bottom emptying spout. It assists in collecting non-aerated samples from the valve end of the bailer, which is ideal for VOC sample collection.

Calcium can be dry blended or prehydrated in water. The mixing of calcium and water generates heat. 

In cable tool operations, these granular Enviroplug No.8 can be used to grout the casing as it is being driven. A hole should be dug at the surface 6 to 8 inches larger than casing and 12 to 14 inches deep. Once the driving has begun, fill this hole with Enviroplug No.8. The granules will follow the drive shoe downward as driving continues creating a bentonite collar around the casing.

Losing the fluid phase of a slurry into the soil can compromise the integrity of the formations. This can allow materials to fall in against the segments, increasing drag and elevating jacking pressures. Micro-Gel slurries protect against excessive fluid loss by laying down a thin tough filter cake that limits the water phase influence on surrounding formations. Traditionally used slurries demonstrate fluid loss values nearly twice the level of Micro-Gel.

Super-Sweep Fiber is added to a variety of drilling fluids to increase the flow and removal of solids within a well-bore application. Super-Sweep Fiber suspends easily and uniformly in fresh water, salt water, water-based drilling muds, allowing it to effectively transport solids out of the drilling environment. Super-Sweep Fiber does not affect the chemistry nor increase the viscosity of the drilling fluid.

Graphite Powder is added to the mud system through the mud-mixing hopper. Because it is extremely fine, it is recommended that a dust mask and goggles be worn while the graphite is being mixed. 

Note: Graphite Powder will have the same effect as ball bearings on any hard surface.  Post warning signs if spilled and sweep up immediately.

Earth Pro Bitu-Seal is typically used in the concentrations ranging from 10 to 30 kg/m3 and is added directly to the mud system. Avoid breathing dust.

Consult the MSDS, safety posters, and/or product label before use, and use personal protective equipment as advised.

Under normal conditions, for a program with a corrosion level of ≥ 25 mpy, initially add 5 L/m³ Earth Pro Brine-Cor. Severe corrosion may require higher concentrations.

To assess the requirement of Earth Pro Brine-Cor in any condition, it is best to use a corrosion rate method such as corrosion ring analysis or an instantaneous corrosion monitor. If high corrosion rates persist and are determined to be oxygen related, supplemental additions of an oxygen scavenger such as Earth Pro Brine-Oxy should be added to the system.

Earth Pro Brine-Cor may be used in conjunction with Earth Pro Brine-Oxy brine oxygen scavenger and Earth Pro Brine-Lube brine lubricant.

For maximum effectiveness, Earth Pro Defoamer Silicone should be added directly to the fluid system as close to the point of foaming as possible. 

Avoid contact with eyes, skin and clothing. In case of contact, immediately wash with plenty of water, flush eyes with flowing water immediately and continuously for 15 minutes. 

Actual amount required depends upon the amount of solids present in the system, concentrations for normal use range from 0.3 - 3.0 L/m³ (requirements are typically 1/4 that of lignosulphonate).

A highly concentrated pill of Earth Pro Di-Sperse 74 will induce well cake breakdown prior to completion, cementing or stimulation operations. 

Earth Pro Di-Sperse 74 should be added directly to the mud system through a mud hopper. This product is stable at high and low temperatures and has excellent freeze-thaw stability. 

Oil mud systems using Earth Pro Emul can be prepared using the proper amounts of oil, water, lime, Earth Pro Emul and electrolytes to form a stable invert emulsion.

Although the use range can vary with well conditions the general addition rate would be 5.0 – 20.0 L/m³. For example a concentration of 5 L/m³ Earth Pro Emul will provide a stable invert emulsion in unweighted muds.

Muds weighted to 1400 kg/m³ will require 15 L/m³ Earth Pro Emul as additional emulsifier is required to oil wet the suspended solids.

Earth Pro K2 Plus can be added directly to the mud system either on surface or through the mixing system. Avoid eye and skin contact, should contact occur, flush thoroughly with water and seek proper medical attention.

Wear plastic or latex gloves and chemical splash goggles. Do not wear contact lenses when handling this material. Wear chemical impervious clothing. Wash thoroughly after handling. Keep containers tightly closed at all times.

Additions can be made directly into the system at an area of good agitation. Normal safety precautions should be adhered to as with any drilling fluids product.

Use the chemical barrel to dissolve the water-soluble package. The water temperature in the chemical barrel should be above 10°C to dissolve the package. Open the outer poly bag and add the water-soluble package of 2K7 directly into the chemical barrel. Agitate until the package and product is dissolved then add to the system as needed.

NOTE: Flush chemical barrel with water prior to adding 2K7. Caustic Soda will greatly reduce the ability of 2K7 to control bacteria.

Alcomer 120L OS may be mixed directly into the active mud system, premixed at higher concentrations prior to blending into the system or added through the hopper.

Like all PHPA polymers, Alcomer 120L OS is sensitive to calcium and subject to shear degradation. The mix water or base bentonite slurry should be pre-treated with Soda Ash.

Alcomer 120L OS can be chemically broken down with household liquid bleach (5% sodium hypochlorite) at a concentration of one gal per 100 gal of Alcomer 120L OS fluid. Do not use solid calcium hypochlorite or perfumed liquid bleach to break down Alcomer 120L OS.

Mix Alcomer 758 / Zetag 7587 slowly into a chemical barrel or polymer mixing tank and allow product to hydrate. Avoid mixing too rapidly. Wear a mask and goggles to prevent dust inhalation and contact with eyes.

Alcomer 758 / Zetag 7587 becomes very slippery when it comes in contact with water, therefore spills should be cleaned up with an absorbent material instead of water.

Aluminum Stearate should be added through a chemical barrel at the flow line or injected directly into a centrifuge from a premixed polymer tank, usually in a 0.5% stock solution. It can also be used for fluid clarification when added at the centrifuge in sumpless drilling operations.

Aluminum Stearate should be stored in a dry, cool environment. Some dust will occur while mixing. Care should be taken to avoid contact with the eyes. If contact is made, rinse the eyes for five to fifteen minutes with water. It is advisable to use a dust mask and eye protection while mixing all powdered products.

To calculate the amount of Barite required to raise the weight use the following formula:

Barite kg/m³ equals 4200 (W2 - W1) divided by 4200 - W2

where W1 = present mud weight in kg/m³
where W2 = desired mud weight in kg/m³

Every 100 sacks of Barite added will increase the volume of the system by one cubic meter.

Cal Carb Poultry Grit may be added directly through the hopper. To minimize settling in the surface tanks, the fluid should be of sufficient viscosity, or the agitation such that the particles are kept in suspension. It is advisable to use a dust mask and eye protection while mixing all powdered products.

Caustic Potash is a strong alkali and produces a strong basic solution. The reaction with water generates heat. Always add potassium hydroxide to water and watch for bubbling and splashing.

Caustic Potash will cause severe burns and skin/eye contact is to be avoided at all times. Wear full clothing, rubber gloves and goggles or face mask. The use of a rubber protective apron is also recommended.

In the event of contact wash immediately with water for at least fifteen minutes. Seek medical attention, especially if burning persists or the contacted area is inflamed. It is advisable to use a dust mask and eye protection while mixing all powdered products.

The loss of circulation during a primary cementing job is a serious problem. It usually results in having to do some remedial cementing. Circulation losses tend to occur in vuggy cavernous formations and particularly in highly fractured incompetent zones. These zones may break down at relatively low hydrostatic pressures. For this reason Cellophane has found a wide application in routine cementing operations. Application rates may vary between 1-20 kg/m³ with normal applications around 5 kg/m³ of cement. At concentrations above 20 kg/m³, bulk loading and mixing of the cement slurry becomes extremely difficult. Cellophane has temperature limitations, but even in high temperature environments, the material is generally effective long enough to merit its presence. 

Employ rubber gloves, rubber apron and skin and eye protection and ensure mixing is done in an area where adequate ventilation is available.

Wear a self-contained breathing apparatus in pressure-demand, MSHA/NIOSH approved and full protective gear. Irritating and highly toxic gases may be generated by thermal decomposition or combustion. Non-combustible, substance does not burn but may decompose upon heating to produce irritating, corrosive and/or toxic fumes.

Drispac (Plus) should be stored in a dry location. In order to avoid lumping it is added to the mud system through the hopper at 30-40 minutes per sack. It is advisable to use a dust mask and eye protection while mixing all powdered products.

Earth Pro ResinBond Cement is a unique blend of polymer and high purity gypsum that has been purposely designed to provide 90-120 minutes of open time, or fluid state to enable proper mixing and displacement to the desired plug zone.

Combined with RB Catalyst, low viscosity fluid properties are maintained for 30 - 60 minutes at BHT provided proper mixing procedures are followed, and product does not become contaminated. This enables confident placement at a wide variety of depths and wellbore temperatures.

Due to this delay feature, should another plug of the same type be required on top of the first one, a certain amount of waiting time is necessary to ensure adequate strength on the preceding plug to prevent disturbance of the weak bonds.

Generally, a minimum of 4 hours is required to allow proper set and initial cure before another similar plug may be placed on top. It is recommended that a retain (cup sample) of the slurry be taken after mixing and monitored at surface (above freezing temperature), to provide a more accurate indicator of the slurry set.

Aluminum Powder 200 is of low toxicity. Excess dust may however produce irritation of the eyes and respiratory system. Use good industrial
hygiene practice and wear goggles and a dust mask when handling the material.

Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from sources of heat, ignition, sparks and incompatible materials such as oxidizers, halogenated hydrocarbons, some acids and alkalis. Keep material dry as aluminum powder will react with water and slowly generate heat and hydrogen.

The combination of fresh water, Therm-Ex Grout and silica sand constitute the system for back filling geothermal loops. Use locally available dry silica sand. For best results, use sand ranging in size from 30 mesh to 70 mesh (AFS GFN particle size classification 38 to 50).

Add the Therm-Ex Grout to the water while agitating. Mix for approximately one minute, then add the sand. Agitate until the sand is uniformly dispersed and pump into place using a tremie line.

For best results, place the tremie line near the bottom of the loop and pump into place. Providing local regulations allow, slowly extracting the tremie line as you come up the hole reduces pump pressure, aids the grout in setting quicker, and reduces the opportunity for formation
damage.

Earth Pro BioFoam concentration should be 2-6L per 400L water for regular foam and gel foam applications. For dust suppressant, 0.25-0.5L per 400L and for mist drilling, 1-2L per 400L water.

When used alone for coring in competent rock the concentration of Earth Pro CombiVis L should be 2L/m³. In loose or fractured rock or for optimal reduction in torque increase additions to 2-4L/m³.

Earth Pro HydraVis D is a dry powdered product so it should be mixed very slowly and at a point of agitation or through a hopper to prevent fish eyes and clumping. Do not mix Earth Pro HydraVis D any faster than 5 mins/kg.

For optimum performance, Earth Pro RockBond should be added to a system before the troublesome zone is penetrated or as soon after as possible.

Premix the prescribed amount in the surface system by adding it at a point of agitation near a mixer in the tank.

For enhancing filter cake in troublesome shale and sands use a concentration of 9.0 to 17.0 kg/m³. For shock treatment of a zone that has already been penetrated mix 20-30 kg/m³ in the initial 2-3 m³ of fluid then maintain the concentration at 5-10 kg/m³ until the zone has been completely drilled and 1hr afterwards.

When used within Mineral Exploration, hydration is almost immediate. 1-1.5 kg/m³ is generally sufficient for normal vertical drilling applications.

In unconsolidated or broken formations that are prone to sloughing or in water reactive clay / shale the concentration should be increased to 1.5-2.5 kg/m³. This product is sensitive to high salinity, if mixing in salt water - contact Di-Corp for specialized instruction.

When used within Horizontal Directional Drilling, 0.5-1 kg/m³ can be used as an additive to Tru-Bore based fluid to enhance viscosity properties and proved shale and clay encapsulation.

Thoroughly mix 1 to 3 liters of Earth Pro TurboCut into 100 liters of fresh water or drilling fluid, depending on drilling conditions. Earth Pro TurboCut can be added to polymer and bentonite drilling systems.

Geo-Flo is a dry powdered product so it should be mixed very slowly and at a point of agitation or through a hopper to prevent fisheyes and clumping. Do not mix Geo-Flo any faster than 5 mins/kg.

Geo-Flo mixing ratio in lbs. per 500L of water:

  • Normal conditions 2-3 kg
  • Sand and gravel 3-4 kg

Mix the G-Stop directly in the tank with 200 times its volume water. Wait 10 minutes. Inject the mixture into the drill string. Inject a volume of water to move mixture to the correct location. Wait 20 minutes. Drill. If the problem persists attempt treatment a second time.

Place 1 gallon of dry G-Stop in a 20-liter pail with 10 liters of water. Allow G-Stop to partially swell. Add 1 liter of partially swollen G-Stop to the rods after the core tube has been pulled. Pump down hole and replace inner tube. Repeat as necessary to stop loss.

The Low Flow System is also useful for sampling in damaged or obstructed monitoring wells as well as in small diameter monitoring wells with low head levels or poor recharge.

The smaller diameter tubing used in the Low Flow System and lower flow rate produced by this system means that the pump itself contains a smaller volume of water when full, leaving more water in the piezometer available for pumping and ultimately sampling.

A pump with a larger storage volume or higher flow rate could potentially purge the well dry or displace the all of the standing water in the well into the pumps tubing and still not have delivered any all of the way to the surface.

The inertial pump has a substantial capacity for developing monitoring wells because of the cyclical action of the valve in the well screen area. This characteristic can be utilized to remove silt and sediment that has accumulated in the foot of the monitoring well and can also be used to remove fines from the sand pack and well screen.

The well development capacity of the Standard Flow D-25 foot valve can be enhanced by installing a SBD-25 Surge Block to the D-25 foot valve.

A Surge Block is an excellent well development tool. It simply press fits over the body of the Standard Flow or High Flow foot valve (D-25 or D-32).

The Surge Block effectively increases the outside diameter of the D-25 or D-32 foot valve to 1 7/8” In 2” wells and 3 7/8” OD in 4” wells, reducing the annular gap between the valve and the inside of the well screen to approximately 1/16” . This results in a significant increase in the surging action of the valve.

The use of the Inertial Pump and Surge Block together is one of the most effective methods for developing monitoring wells because it simultaneously surges and pumps the well. This frees up silt and sediment in the sand pack and screen and breaks down bridging, drawing these particles it into the well and then removes this material from the well.

The recommended method for developing a monitoring well with the inertial pump and Surge Block is to begin the development process with the Surge Block near the top of the well screen. Operate the pump with the Surge Block in this position until the turbidity level of the water being delivered from the pump decreases to an acceptable level. Once this level is reached then the Surge Block is lowered in the well screen one to two feet and the process is repeated. Developing wells in this manner is one of the best methods, often resulting in turbidity levels below 10 NTUs.

Please leave a minimum of 3-5 feet slack in the tether line to allow the SuperSleeve to compress into the bottom of the well.  This depends on the length of your sampler:  3 feet for the 1-liter SuperSleeve; 5 feet for the 2-liter SuperSleeve.  A minimum of 48 hours should be allowed for equilibration time when using SuperSleeves.

The FHT-45 offers the user the most surface area available in capsule type filters today. The unique open pleat geometry and 600 square cm surface area provide the maximum media exposure while ensuring that even with the most turbid samples, you will not lose filtration media to blinding.

The FHT-45 uses 600 square cm of high quality polyethersulphone 0.45 micron filter media, which offers excellent particle retention above the target micron size range. The high void volume of this media also helps prolong media life.

The FHT-45 also offers the user greater flexibility over other products by providing a compound inlet. It has both a 3/8" threaded nipple and a 1/2" hose barb allowing the filter to be attached easily to a variety of pumps and tubing sizes.

All Inline Disposable Micron Filters are pre-rinsed with one liter of de-ionized water to ensure purity, and are now certified to rinse clean. Independent ICP/MS analysis proves it.

Soda Ash is only partially soluble in water so prehydrating or attempting to dissolve it in water and then add it to a system will result in minimal benefit. Soda Ash is best added dry either through a mixing hopper or mechanically dispersed (sprinkled) over the top of the fluid surface or added at a point of agitation. 

In make up water or to treat contamination from cement, anhydrite or to treat out Ca+ from floc water the flowing guideline is used if hardness can be measured. 

  • 350 mg/L calcium ions requires 1.0 kg/m³ of Soda Ash

If total hardness or calcium can not be measured at the time of treatment or if blindly pretreating make up water for premixing, add Soda Ash in 0.5 kg/m³ increments until pH is 8.5 - 9.0. Do not exceed 3 kg/m³ without being able to physically determine the effectiveness of the addition either through chemical tests or general analysis of the mud. Over-treatment of Soda Ash can result in carbonate alkalinity and consequent excessive gel strengths and problems due to increased fluid loss. 

CRM-19 can be dry blended or prehydrated as required. Avoid breathing dust. Wear the appropriate protective equipment when handling this product. For further information, consult the Material Safety Data Sheet.

Please note that shortly after this open time, the slurry begins the transition to the set state. In all cases, at 2 hours the slurry will no longer flow. This value does vary somewhat depending upon well depth and RB Catalyst loading, so always place the Earth Pro ResinBond Cement plug as quickly and as safely as possible.

Factors that affect flow rate include such parameters as the depth of submergence of the foot valve, tubing diameter, well casing diameter, the length of pump stroke and the speed of oscillation of the pump.

Obviously, the speed of oscillation is the primary factor in imparting momentum to the water column in the pump's tubing. Generally a pumping rate of 100 to 180 strokes per minute is recommended. The recommended stroke length is 4 to 6 inches, with a longer stroke performing better in deeper piezometers.

Greater submergence of the foot valve increases the pressure differential (the pressure difference between the water within the tubing and the head pressure outside the valve) that is created at the end of the upward pump stroke. Increasing the pressure differential increases the rate of water inflow through the valve at the end of the upward stroke, thereby increasing the flow rate.

Another factor affecting the flow rate with the inertial pump is size of the annular gap between the inertial pump tubing and the ID of the well casing. When the inertial pump is operating, the flexible tubing will tend to wobble from side to side within the well casing. This wobble results in some of the up and down movement applied at surface to the tubing not reaching the depth where the valve is located. For this reason, the stiffer High Density Polyethylene tubing is usually preferred in deeper monitoring wells (depth in excess of 60 – 70 feet). The inertial pump performs best in smaller diameter piezometers (4" or less).

Enviroplug Grout can be mixed and placed using most available pumping equipment. Although paddle type mixers and positive displacement pumps work best, mixing can also be done through re-circulating systems.

Maximum performance is achieved at a ratio of 1 bag to 14 gallons of water (30% solids). Since pumps such as double diaphragm or gear pumps may not produce enough pressure to place highly viscous mixtures, the ratio can be adjusted to 1 bag per 16 gallons of water and still achieve a good grout set.

As Enviroplug Grout is added to the make-up water, a pan-cake batter consistency is generated. Pumping at this time is recommended as it minimizes migration into formations and allows for continued hydration to take place down hole.

Provided local regulations allow, it is always recommended to withdraw the tremie line as grout is being pumped. This permits the grout to continue its set undisturbed, reduces pump pressure and minimizes unnecessary migration into formations.

  1. Obtain as much well information as possible for the Earth Pro ResinBond Cement plug, most important are depth, and/or BHST (°C.)
  2. Ensure well has been circulated clean, and that the well is dead.
  3. Measure accurately the correct amount of CLEAN, FRESH water into the mixing vessel. Five (5) liters of water per 20 kg pail of Earth Pro ResinBond Cement is required for proper hydration. Do NOT use produced or contaminated water sources for mixing Earth Pro ResinBond Cement. Uncontrollable slurry properties could result in job failure. Ensure the mixing water temperature is 15-25°C. Lower temperature water may result in difficulty mixing, while using very hot water may lead to loss of working time, again leading to job failure.
  4. In the following table, find the temperature closest to the BHT in the well being serviced. This corresponds to the proper amount of RB Catalyst L PER PAIL of Earth Pro ResinBond Cement required in this well situation.
  5. Carefully pour the required amount of RB Catalyst into the measuring vial. Shake lightly to level. Re-measure and add or remove Catalyst as required. Do NOT tamp, as product will compact, leading to overt treating. Slight overdosing or under dosing will not compromise the overall fluid properties of Earth Pro ResinBond Cement, but care in handling is always recommended.
  6. Add the required amount of RB Catalyst L FIRST to the mixing water. Stir for a minimum of 3-5 minutes to ensure proper dissolution.
  7. Add the Earth Pro ResinBond Cement to the water and RB Catalyst L while mixing steadily to avoid lumping, and mix until the slurry is visibly smooth.
  8. Pour into the dump bailer equipment and run to bottom and place plug as per usual procedure.
  9. Pull up slowly to avoid disturbing plug.
  10. Apply squeeze pressure if required.
