Is industrial sand the same as silica sand?
Yes, industrial sand is the same as silica sand (otherwise referred to as quartz sand). Silica sand is made of oxygen and silica dioxide (SiO2), a chemically inert and hard material.
Are industrial sand particles toxic?
Industrial sand is not toxic on its own, but the dust from the sand particles can cause silicosis. Being exposed to industrial sand dust can cause scar tissue, making breathing difficult. The only way to become exposed to the dust is through industrial blasting, cutting, breaking, or drilling.
