Avoid eye and skin contact. Should contact occur flush thoroughly with water. When Earth Pro Can-Free is added directly to the mud, some shear or moderate agitation should be applied. As a spotting fluid, Earth Pro Can-Free mixes readily with diesel or crude oil. 

CoreMix will yield in both hard and brackish water.  The recommended concentration of CoreMix ranges from 4-6 kg/m³ depending on drilling conditions.

When the solids content of oil-based fluids (high density or build-up of drilled solids) develop adverse effects on rheology Earth Pro OMD will provide a decrease in yield point and gel strengths improving the flow properties of the fluid.

Rates of addition will vary based on the severity of the solids build-up. Typical rates are between 2 – 8 L/m³.

Earth Pro Poly-Xan L disperses in water with moderate agitation. Continued mixing provides a smooth viscous fluid. It should be added slowly either through the hopper to allow proper dispersion.

Add Earth Pro Torq-Glide at the pump suction for reduction of torque and drag. It can be added as required to improve the sliding of the drill string when building or maintaining hole angle. Skin and eye protection should be observed.

Traditional

For maximum effectiveness Earth Pro XL-Defoamer should be added directly to the fluid system as close to the point of foaming (e.g. shale shaker) as possible. It may also be sprayed over the fluid through a wash gun diluted in a mineral oil mixture if necessary (e.g. over mud tanks).

Earth Pro XL-Defoamer may cause irritation to the skin and eyes. Use rubber gloves, rubber apron, mask and eye protection when using this and other liquid mud additives.

In case of skin contact, wash with water as required. In case of eye contact, wash with water for at least fifteen minutes and seek medical attention if necessary. Although stable, do not store Earth Pro XL-Defoamer near strong oxidizing agents.

Alcomer 755 / Zetag 7557 should be added through a chemical barrel at the flow line or injected directly into a centrifuge from a premixed polymer tank, usually in a 0.5% stock solution.

Add an appropriate organic or inorganic coagulant before adding Alcomer 755 / Zetag 7557. It can also be used for fluid clarification when added at the centrifuge in sumpless drilling operations.

Mix directly into the hopper at 30 minutes per sack or add (with agitation) to a chemical barrel or polymer-mixing tank. Avoid mixing too rapidly. A mask and goggles should be worn to prevent inhalation of dust and contact with eyes.

Alkapam A-1103D becomes very slippery when coming in contact with water. A spill should be cleaned up with an absorbent material.

Aquabloc HT mixes readily and may be added to a mud system through the hopper at 10-15 minutes per sack. It is advisable to use a dust mask and eye protection while mixing all powdered products.

Calcium Chloride Powder is extremely corrosive. Utilize normal precautions for employee protection when handling chemical products. Use of appropriate respirator, gloves, goggles, and apron is recommended for employee comfort and protection.

Cellophane is used to provide a sealing agent supplement to other lost circulation material in water based drilling muds. It is also a basic additive in cement slurries, providing a matting effect in the control of losses. Typical rates of addition up to 2% by wt. cement are used as a preventative measure.

Drilstar HT mixes readily. It may be added through the hopper at rates of 5-10 minutes per sack when required. It is advisable to use a dust mask while it is being mixed.

Emul-Break can be added directly to the mud on surface or through the mixing system. Avoid inhalation of vapors. Do not get on skin, in eyes or on clothing. Keep container closed when not in use. Wear suitable protection for eyes and skin when handling. Use with adequate ventilation. Avoid contact with incompatible materials.

Store in cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from sources of heat, ignition and sparks. Use proper grounding techniques if product is classed as flammable or combustible. Avoid using natural rubber, use neoprene.

*Caution*: Emul-Break is a surface-active demulsifier. It is a respiratory and digestive tract irritant that should be handled with care.

Gilsonite is relatively stable and of low hazard. However it should not be stored or used near strong oxidizing agents such as chlorates, nitrates or peroxides. Excessive dust is subject to combustion or explosion upon contact with spark or open flame. Use good industrial hygiene practice to avoid eye and excess skin contact. Wear a protective dust mask and goggles when handling and mixing.

Modern

HSO 0600G can be added directly to the mud system or metered into the system with a positive displacement pump. HSO 0600G is a combustible liquid, avoid heat, sparks and open flames. Avoid breathing vapor and contact with eyes, skin or clothing. Keep container closed when not in use. Use this product in a well-ventilated area.

Premix in water in the chemical barrel and add slowly to the system. Excess lime treatment will cause thickening of a bentonite based mud system.

Hydrated Lime gives off heat when mixed with water. Strong solutions have a high pH and may cause skin burns. Avoid contact with skin and eyes and wear protective clothing and goggles when handling and mixing. Store in a dry place.

Hyperdrill AF 207RD is added either at the flow line to promote solids settling in the sump or at a point prior to mechanical separation equipment.

A 0.5% stock solution is most commonly prepared using (1) one viscosity cup of polymer per 50 gallons of fresh water. It must be mixed slowly to prevent “humping” and the subsequent loss of polymer at the shaker screen.

Mix Hyperdrill CP 905H slowly into a chemical barrel or polymer mixing tank and allow product to hydrate (approximately 1 hour). Avoid mixing too rapidly. Wear a mask and goggles to prevent dust inhalation and contact with eyes.

Traditional

Mix Hyperdrill NF 301H slowly into a chemical barrel or polymer mixing tank and allow product to hydrate (approximately 1 hour). Avoid mixing too rapidly. Wear a mask and goggles to prevent dust inhalation and contact with eyes.

Hyperdrill NF 301H becomes very slippery when it comes in contact with water, therefore spills should be cleaned up with an absorbent material instead of water.

Solution preparation in pH neutral waters is rapid; however, attention to water temperature is necessary as cold waters require a much longer hydration time.

In high pH waters Natrosol Hi-Vis will dissolve much faster regardless of water temperature, however this is not recommended. Laboratory testing is recommended for loading confirmation and application. This HEC is compatible in fresh water, sea water, and salt solutions up to
saturation.

Store in a cool, dry place away from incompatible materials. Wear the appropriate safety goggles and protective equipment when handling this product.

Mix directly into mud hopper. Avoid mixing too rapidly. A mask and goggles should be worn to prevent inhalation of dust and contact with the eyes. Fresh air ventilation should be provided in the mixing area.

Potash mixes readily in water and can be mixed directly through the hopper. Avoid breathing dust while mixing. It is advisable to use a dust mask and eye protection while mixing all powdered products.

Storage Precaution: Calcium oxide on its own will not burn. However, bulk powder may heat spontaneously when it comes into contact with water. Humidity or contact with water may generate sufficient heat to ignite flammable and combustible materials. In addition, the reaction of calcium oxide with a number of commonly encountered materials can generate sufficient heat to ignite nearby combustible materials. Store in a dry place.

Handling Precaution: Lime gives off heat when mixed with water. Due to its reactivity with water, all precautions should be taken to avoid skin or eye contact. It will cause severe burns to the eyes and skin. Wear goggles and protective clothing when handling this product.

Avoid inhalation of vapors. Do not get on skin, in eyes or on clothing. Keep container closed when not in use. Wear suitable protection for eyes and skin when handling. Use with adequate ventilation. Avoid contact with incompatible materials. Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area.

Sea Mud is mixed through the mud hopper and requires more shear (than bentonite) in order to attain its maximum yield. This product contains crystalline silica known to be carcinogenic to humans.

It is not uncommon to observe an increase in viscosity as a result of the high shear rate experienced by the drilling mud as it passes through the bit nozzles.

Consequently, although Sea Mud may be mixed as rapidly as 5 minutes per sack, allowance must be made for the increased viscosity arising from circulation through the bit.

It is advisable to use a dust mask and eye protection while mixing all powdered products.

Soda Ash is added directly through the mud-mixing hopper. It should be stored in a cool, dry place. Avoid contact with strong acids in confined areas. Avoid inhalation of dust or contact with the eyes. If contact is made, rinse thoroughly with water for 15 minutes and seek medical attention if necessary. It is advisable to use a dust mask and eye protection while mixing all powdered products.

Sodium Sulfite - Catalyzed readily decomposes. It is usually added at a concentration of one to two sacks to a barrel of water. After mixing, the mixture is covered with a 10.0-15.0 cm blanket of mineral oil to minimize absorption of oxygen from the air. It is then slowly pumped into the central stream of the mud pump suction with an injection pump. Wear suitable protection for eyes and skin when handling. Use in areas with adequate ventilation.

  • Microtox threshold that exceeds normal use concentrations
  • More efficient than regular starches
  • Nearly as efficient as cellulosics at controlling fluid loss
  • Non-fermenting and requires no biocide under normal conditions
  • Stable against drilling fluid enzyme contamination that could result in viscosity breakdown

T-352 Biocide is corrosive and will cause irreversible eye damage. Wear suitable protection for eyes and skin and ensure there is adequate ventilation in the mixing area.

Torq-Trol W can be added directly to the active mud system at any point of agitation.

Linear

Xanvis can be easily mixed through the mud hopper. Care should be taken, as with most polymers, to avoid mixing too quickly to prevent any potential for lumping. It is advisable to use a dust mask and eye protection while mixing all powdered products.

Typical use on a small scale is for dump-bail treatments. The product is batched in small volumes according to the following blend table, and “dumped” down the wellbore using conventional rig equipment. After a period of time the cement sets, providing a small, hard plug in the problem area.

*Note: Strengths are for reference only. Actual values may vary due to changing wellbore conditions, variations in density, and water quality. Samples should be taken at the time of treatment and observed at estimated wellbore temperature for strength development.

At temperatures below 30°C, calcium chloride can be added in a small amount, to accelerate the set time. Typical dosage is 0.5-1% w/w, depending on well depth, and wellbore temperature. Slurry viscosity and working time will be reduced proportionately.

Exercise extreme care in the addition of calcium chloride. In itself calcium chloride is a corrosive material, and will cause skin burns. If poorly mixed, it can cause excessive heat of hydration, potentially leading to a flash set of the cement.

Earth Pro Slurry Master is a toxic material. Store in a cool dry place, away from incompatible materials. It contains alcohol ethoxylates and mineral oil, which may cause irritation to sensitive skin areas. Wear the appropriate safety goggles and protective equipment when handling this product.

Always store Earth Pro FLA-6 in a dry location. It will be stable at elevated temperatures, although such conditions are not recommended under any circumstances. Use good industrial hygiene to avoid eye contact or inhalation. Wear appropriate safety equipment when handling and mixing.

RB Catalyst must always be added to the mixing water FIRST. Failure to do so may result in shortened working time leading to potential plug failure. Always keep Earth Pro ResinBond pail and RB Catalyst containers closed until use. Avoid contact with water or excessive moisture. Wear the appropriate safety goggles and protective equipment when handling this product.

Barite (20.4μ) has two major functions in cementing operations:

Weighting Agent - Used where high pore pressures, unstable wellbores and deformable plastic formations are controlled by high hydrostatic pressures. Slurries with densities of up to 2280 kg/m³ (19.0 lbs/gal) can be prepared with Barite to control such wells.

Plugs - A Barite plug will seal the wellbore due to the high hydrostatic head pressure of the slurry. In addition the Barite slurry has a high filtrate loss causing it to dehydrate rapidly forming a plug. The viscosity and yield point of the Barite slurry must be kept low if the Barite is to settle and form a plug.

A table outlining the general effect of calcium chloride upon the thickening time and compressive strength is presented below. Results are based on an 1872 kg/m³ API Class A cement slurry.

Oilfield Cementing: Typical concentration can vary from 0.5% to 2% BWOC. CRM-22B has a synergistic effect on slurry fluid loss control. It can be used to disperse weighted slurries up to 2250 kg/m³, but addition of this product to low-density slurries may result in a large excess of free water and particle segregation.

Excessive dispersant loading can lead to slurry disintegration, severely retarded set and possible bridging off mid-job. This is typical of cement
dispersants, and laboratory testing should be carried out before recommending for field use. CRM-22B is not recommended at temperatures exceeding 60°C.

Earth Pro Defoamer Powder is non-hazardous. Store in a cool dry place and away from incompatible materials. Earth Pro Defoamer Powder components may cause irritation to sensitive skin areas. Wear the appropriate safety goggles and protective equipment when handling this product.

LTR is most often dry blended in cement. Quantities of Barite to be used and the volume increase may be quickly determined by dividing the desired weight by 2 to give the number of sacks required per 100 barrels of mud for each 0.1 ppg increase. For each 15 sacks added there will be one barrel volume increase.

Placement of the Grout-Well products is best done using a positive displacement or progressive cavity pump. When pumping must be done with gear or diaphragm pumps, you may have to use additional make-up water to insure pumpability due to the limited pressure generated by these types of pumps.

When adding the grouts to make-up water, the slurry will resemble pancake batter, a creamy consistency with lumps. This is the ideal time to pump the fluid since all the bentonite has not fully hydrated. Once in place, the particles continue to swell, sealing off cracks and crevices while gelling to form its caulk-like consistency.

Provided local regulations allow, it is always recommended that the tremie line be withdrawn as the grout is being pumped. This permits the grout to continue its set undisturbed, reduces pump pressure, and minimizes unnecessary migration into surrounding formations.

Poly-Pro should be mixed slowly through the hopper and allowed to hydrate for 10-15 minutes prior to use. Poly-Pro is sensitive to high calcium levels, so the make up water should be treated with soda ash. Use a concentration of 0.3-1.0 lb of Poly-Pro per 100 gal of drilling fluid.

Poly-Pro can be chemically broken down with household bleach (5% sodium hypochlorite) using a concentration of one gal of bleach per 100 gal of Poly-Pro fluid. Do not use solid calcium hypochlorite or perfumed bleach.

Hyperdrill AE 853 is a very versatile polymer which can be used for oil, gas, water and mineral drilling. It can be added to fresh, KCL or sea water based drilling fluid systems. Hyperdrill AE 853 functions primarily as a:

Handling: Minimize skin contact. Wash with soap and water before eating, drinking, smoking, or using toilet facilities. Bags and containers of this material may be hazardous when emptied. Empty containers retain product residues.

Storage: prevent absorption of moisture and possible caking. Store in a cool, dry place. Do not store with cyanides, sulfides, chlorine, hypochlorous acid, hypochlorites or alkalis.

Handling: For industrial use only. Heat is generated upon dilution with water. When diluting, add product slowly to water with agitation. Never add water to the acid as severe splashing and reactivity will result. Always add acid to water. ATTENTION: This container hazardous when emptied. Since emptied container contains product residues (vapor or liquid), all labeled hazard precautions must be observed.

Storage: Keep container closed when not in use. Keep out of reach of children.

Earth Pro pH Up Soda Ash is only partially soluble in water so prehydrating or attempting to dissolve it in water and then add it to a system will result in minimal benefit. Earth Pro pH Up Soda Ash is best added dry either through a mixing hopper or mechanically dispersed (sprinkled) over the top of the fluid surface or added at a point of agitation. 

In make up water or to treat contamination from cement, anhydrite or to treat out Ca+ from floc water the flowing guideline is used if hardness can be measured.

If total hardness or calcium can not be measured at the time of treatment or if blindly pretreating make up water for premixing, add Earth Pro pH Up Soda Ash in 0.5 kg/m³ increments until pH is 8.5 - 9.0. Do not exceed 3 kg/m³ without being able to physically determine the effectiveness of the addition either through chemical tests or general analysis of the mud. Over-treatment of Earth Pro pH Up Soda Ash can result in carbonate alkalinity and consequent excessive gel strengths and problems due to increased fluid loss.

The tool outputs standard survey data, such as recorded station depth, inclination, azimuth, gravity highside, magnetic toolface, temperature and more. The magnetometers have been calibrated with high precision and the tool will deliver a reading of the magnitude of the local magnetic field which can be used to detect anomalies in the local Earth magnetic field to identify survey stations of low quality.

Calcium can be dry blended or prehydrated in water. The mixing of calcium and water generates heat. 

In cable tool operations, these granular Enviroplug No.8 can be used to grout the casing as it is being driven. A hole should be dug at the surface 6 to 8 inches larger than casing and 12 to 14 inches deep. Once the driving has begun, fill this hole with Enviroplug No.8. The granules will follow the drive shoe downward as driving continues creating a bentonite collar around the casing.

Dry Driven Casing: In cable tool operations, these granular Enviroplug No.20 can be used to grout the casing as it is being driven. A hole should be dug at the surface 6 to 8 inches larger than casing and 12 to 14 inches deep. Once the driving has begun, fill this hole with Enviroplug No.20. The granules will follow the drive shoe downward as driving continues creating a bentonite collar around the casing.

Pumpable Grout Seals: Enviroplug No.20 can be used in a pumpable slurry mix to grout wells or abandon holes. Agitate until the polymer is dispersed, then add 50 pounds of Enviroplug No.20. Pump immediately.

CAUTION: Continued agitation will result in extreme viscosity and become unpumpable. 

Cased Holes or Uncased Holes: For decommissioning cased or uncased holes larger than 3" diameter, Enviroplug Coarse can be used. If static water is present, pour chips from the bag at a rate of 1 1/2 to 2 minutes per 50 pounds. A funneling device with a 2" opening can be used to insure a constant flow of material into the hole. Should the water level be quite low - a screen can be used to drop out "fines" from the material before entering the hole. 

Abandoning Dug Wells: Completely filling dug wells with bentonite chips can be very expensive and unnecessary. To economically decommission and stabilize dug wells, Enviroplug Coarse should be placed from the bottom section upward to 3 feet above the water bearing zone. Alternate sections of sand, fine gravel, or clay upward with a 12" layer of Enviroplug Coarse every 5 to 6 feet. Any of the above methods should be finished off approximately 3 feet below the surface, then filled with native soil or cement depending upon local regulatory requirements.

Seismic Shot Holes: After the hole is drilled and charge is placed, pour Enviroplug Coarse slowly into the hole (1½ - 2 minutes per bag). In wet hole conditions add enough Enviroplug Coarse to fill up to the static water level. In a dry hole, add 2 to 4 bags directly over the charge. Where auger drills are used or where water is injected, pour 2 bags per 50 feet of hole depth.

Soda Ash is used to precipitate calcium in make up water, which softens the water and elevates the water's pH level prior to mixing mud additives. This is desirable since bentonite and some polymers provide better yield in soft, slightly alkaline water.

Oilfield Cementing: Typical concentration can vary from 0.5% to 2% BWOC. CRM-19 can be used to disperse weighted slurries up to 2250 kg/m³, but use in low-density slurries can result in an excess of free water leading to particle segregation. This is typical of cement dispersants, and laboratory testing should be carried out before recommending for field use. Excessive dispersant loading can lead to slurry disintegration, severely retarded set and possible bridging off mid-job.

Other: CRM-19 can be used as a dispersing mechanism for manufacture of gypsum wallboard products, and other similar industrial applications.

Direct contact with wet cement should be avoided. If contact occurs, the skin should be washed with water as soon as possible. Exposure can cause serious, potentially irreversible tissue destruction in the form of chemical (caustic) burns. If cement gets into the eyes, immediately rinse thoroughly with water and seek medical attention.

Earth Pro Brine-Lube reduces friction in areas where the drill string comes into contact with formation or casing. It may be added as a percentage (1.0-3.0% by volume) of the fluid system where torque and drag are a continuous problem.

Soft shale will have fewer tendencies to adhere to bits and drill collars when Earth Pro Brine-Lube is present in the drilling fluid.

To minimize bit balling add 6.0-12.0 L/m³ Earth Pro Brine-Lube and maintain this concentration with additions at the pump suction.

To help prevent differential sticking maintain 15-25.0 L/m³ of Earth Pro Brine-Lube in the mud system.

Earth Pro Brine-Oxy can be added directly to the mud system. The required amount is adjusted based on the amount of dissolved oxygen.

Maintain an excess of Earth Pro Brine-Oxy at any time. Residual scavenger in the mud can be measured with test kit purchased through Di-Corp.

Avoid contact with eyes and skin. In case of contact, immediately wash with plenty of water. Flush eyes with flowing water immediately and continuously for twenty minutes. See a physician if necessary. Remove contaminated clothes and shoes and wash before re-use.

Earth Pro Oilwell ‘G’ Cement contains free silica. Avoid breathing dust, and wear appropriate dust mask as a precaution. When product is mixed with water, some heat evolution will occur. Caution should be exercised to mix continually until ready to place the slurry in the dump-bail.

Since Earth Pro Oilwell ‘G’ Cement is caustic in nature (pH 10-12), and will cause severe burns to the eyes and other sensitive skin areas. Wear the appropriate safety goggles and protective equipment when handling this product.

Earth Pro ResinBond Cement is a unique blend of polymer and high purity gypsum that has been purposely designed to provide 90-120 minutes of open time, or fluid state to enable proper mixing and displacement to the desired plug zone.

Combined with RB Catalyst, low viscosity fluid properties are maintained for 30 - 60 minutes at BHT provided proper mixing procedures are followed, and product does not become contaminated. This enables confident placement at a wide variety of depths and wellbore temperatures.

Due to this delay feature, should another plug of the same type be required on top of the first one, a certain amount of waiting time is necessary to ensure adequate strength on the preceding plug to prevent disturbance of the weak bonds.

Generally, a minimum of 4 hours is required to allow proper set and initial cure before another similar plug may be placed on top. It is recommended that a retain (cup sample) of the slurry be taken after mixing and monitored at surface (above freezing temperature), to provide a more accurate indicator of the slurry set.

Aluminum Powder 200 is of low toxicity. Excess dust may however produce irritation of the eyes and respiratory system. Use good industrial
hygiene practice and wear goggles and a dust mask when handling the material.

Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from sources of heat, ignition, sparks and incompatible materials such as oxidizers, halogenated hydrocarbons, some acids and alkalis. Keep material dry as aluminum powder will react with water and slowly generate heat and hydrogen.

Avoid contact with strong oxidizers. Safety glasses with side-shields are recommended. Wear clothing adequate to protect against exposure. Ensure eye-wash station and emergency shower are available. Wash thoroughly after handling. Avoid contact with eyes, skin or clothing.

Tru-Bore is dry bentonite clay and requires high shear and agitation for proper hydration. It should be mixed no faster than five minutes per sack. Always mix bentonite before polymers. Cold water increases mixing time.

Tru-Bore concentrations vary dependent on the application and type of additives used. A concentration of 15-25 pounds of Tru-Bore per 100 gal of fluid yields a viscosity of approximately 45 seconds on a Marsh Funnel. At a rate of 27 lb per 100 gal, viscosity can climb to 60 seconds.

.25-1 L/m³ is more than sufficient. Too much will result in an increase in apparent viscosity as it will begin to flocculate the mud.

When mixed in a polymer system in conjunction with Earth Pro HydraVis D, Earth Pro HydraVis L, Earth Pro SynVis D or Earth Pro SynVis L mix at 2-4kg/m³. As a rheology and fluid loss additive in bentonite based systems add 1-4kg/m³ as required to maintain fluid loss below 10CC.

If Earth Pro HydraVis L is used in conjunction with Earth Pro SynVis L the concentration should be 2L/m³. If used as a stand alone product the concentration should be 3-4L/m³. If used as a bentonite extender the concentration should be 1.5L/m³.

Fill available tanks with fresh water and apply maximum agitation to allow for quicker dispersion and hydration of initial application. Slowly add 1kg Earth Pro MultiMix to 1000L of water and allow to hydrate at maximum shear in the tank for 5 mins.

While pumping mixture down, add an additional 2 kg/m³ as close to the suction point as possible to allow for semi hydrated polymers to reach formation. As the semi hydrated polymers are hydrated in or on the surface of the formation, they will form a securing polymer matrix that will halt further sloughing and collapse.

Regular drilling applications in potential sloughing sand and loose overburden should be met with 2 kg/1000 L of water of Earth Pro MultiMix mixed and hydrated in the surface tanks like normal drilling polymers. Regular semi hydrated sweeps of Earth Pro MultiMix may also benefit broken ground conditions. Sweep by adding .5 kg of drill Earth Pro MultiMix at a point close to the suction in the mud tanks while pumping.

Mix the Earth Pro StopLoss directly in the tank with 200 times its volume water. Wait 10 minutes. Inject the mixture into the drill string. Inject a volume of water to move mixture to the correct location. Wait 20 minutes. Drill. If the problem persists attempt treatment a second time.

Place 1 gallon of dry Earth Pro StopLoss in a 2 0-liter pail with 10 liters of water. Allow Earth Pro StopLoss to partially swell. Add 1 liter of partially swollen Earth Pro StopLoss to the rods after the core tube has been pulled. Pump down hole and replace inner tube. Repeat as necessary to stop loss.

Earth Pro SynVis L can be added either by either batch measuring the prescribed amount and adding at a point of agitation or continuous additions by poking a small hole in the bottom and top of the pail and placing near a point of agitation above the tank.

If being mixed as part of a complete polymer system add approximately 2 L for every m³ of fluid under normal drilling situations. If being mixed as a standalone product increase the mixture to 3.5-4 L/m³ and vary concentration depending on hole conditions. If being added as an overburden binder or to a bentonite system as an extender add 3 L/m³ after the bentonite has been added to the mix and allowed to hydrate.

DR-133 Polymer can be added either by either batch measuring the prescribed amount and adding at a point of agitation or continuous additions by poking a small hole in the bottom and top of the jug and placing near a point of agitation above the tank.

If being mixed as part of a complete polymer system add approximately 2L for every m³ of fluid under normal drilling situations. If being mixed as a standalone product increase the mixture to 3.5-4 L/m³ and vary concentration depending on hole conditions. If being added as an over burden binder or to a bentonite system as an extender add 3 L/m³ after the bentonite has been added to the mix and allowed to hydrate.

For optimum performance, Boreliner should be added to a system before the troublesome zone is penetrated or as soon after as possible. Premix the prescribed amount or Boreliner in the surface system by adding it at a point of agitation near a mixer in the tank.

For enhancing filter cake in troublesome shale and sands use a concentration of 9.0 to 17.0 kg/m³. For shock treatment of a zone that has already been penetrated mix 20-30 kg/m³ in the initial 2-3 m³ of fluid then maintain the concentration at 5-10 kg/m³ until the zone has been completely drilled and 1 hour afterwards.

Boreliner is a hydrocarbon based product which is not considered biodegradable. The dust from the product warrants the use of a dust mask when mixing and handling to prevent inhalation. At low concentrations the product is non toxic to the environment.

Concentration for initial treatments should be 3-4L/m³ and then maintenance should be at 2-3L/m³ (this should be monitored closely). Situations may require concentrations up to 10L/m³ or as low as 2L/m³.

The Low Flow System is also useful for sampling in damaged or obstructed monitoring wells as well as in small diameter monitoring wells with low head levels or poor recharge.

The smaller diameter tubing used in the Low Flow System and lower flow rate produced by this system means that the pump itself contains a smaller volume of water when full, leaving more water in the piezometer available for pumping and ultimately sampling.

A pump with a larger storage volume or higher flow rate could potentially purge the well dry or displace the all of the standing water in the well into the pumps tubing and still not have delivered any all of the way to the surface.

The inertial pump has a substantial capacity for developing monitoring wells because of the cyclical action of the valve in the well screen area. This characteristic can be utilized to remove silt and sediment that has accumulated in the foot of the monitoring well and can also be used to remove fines from the sand pack and well screen.

The well development capacity of the Standard Flow D-25 foot valve can be enhanced by installing a SBD-25 Surge Block to the D-25 foot valve.

A Surge Block is an excellent well development tool. It simply press fits over the body of the Standard Flow or High Flow foot valve (D-25 or D-32).

The Surge Block effectively increases the outside diameter of the D-25 or D-32 foot valve to 1 7/8” In 2” wells and 3 7/8” OD in 4” wells, reducing the annular gap between the valve and the inside of the well screen to approximately 1/16” . This results in a significant increase in the surging action of the valve.

The use of the Inertial Pump and Surge Block together is one of the most effective methods for developing monitoring wells because it simultaneously surges and pumps the well. This frees up silt and sediment in the sand pack and screen and breaks down bridging, drawing these particles it into the well and then removes this material from the well.

The recommended method for developing a monitoring well with the inertial pump and Surge Block is to begin the development process with the Surge Block near the top of the well screen. Operate the pump with the Surge Block in this position until the turbidity level of the water being delivered from the pump decreases to an acceptable level. Once this level is reached then the Surge Block is lowered in the well screen one to two feet and the process is repeated. Developing wells in this manner is one of the best methods, often resulting in turbidity levels below 10 NTUs.

The FHT-45 offers the user the most surface area available in capsule type filters today. The unique open pleat geometry and 600 square cm surface area provide the maximum media exposure while ensuring that even with the most turbid samples, you will not lose filtration media to blinding.

The FHT-45 uses 600 square cm of high quality polyethersulphone 0.45 micron filter media, which offers excellent particle retention above the target micron size range. The high void volume of this media also helps prolong media life.

The FHT-45 also offers the user greater flexibility over other products by providing a compound inlet. It has both a 3/8" threaded nipple and a 1/2" hose barb allowing the filter to be attached easily to a variety of pumps and tubing sizes.

Soda Ash is only partially soluble in water so prehydrating or attempting to dissolve it in water and then add it to a system will result in minimal benefit. Soda Ash is best added dry either through a mixing hopper or mechanically dispersed (sprinkled) over the top of the fluid surface or added at a point of agitation. 

In make up water or to treat contamination from cement, anhydrite or to treat out Ca+ from floc water the flowing guideline is used if hardness can be measured. 

  • 350 mg/L calcium ions requires 1.0 kg/m³ of Soda Ash

If total hardness or calcium can not be measured at the time of treatment or if blindly pretreating make up water for premixing, add Soda Ash in 0.5 kg/m³ increments until pH is 8.5 - 9.0. Do not exceed 3 kg/m³ without being able to physically determine the effectiveness of the addition either through chemical tests or general analysis of the mud. Over-treatment of Soda Ash can result in carbonate alkalinity and consequent excessive gel strengths and problems due to increased fluid loss. 

CRM-19 can be dry blended or prehydrated as required. Avoid breathing dust. Wear the appropriate protective equipment when handling this product. For further information, consult the Material Safety Data Sheet.

Earth Pro Chem Clean Green can be applied neat or diluted with water depending on the difficulty of a particular cleanup.

For extra heavy duty degreasing, Earth Pro Chem Clean Green can be used full strength. For routine cleaning, use Earth Pro Chem Clean Green can be diluted at 1:5 water. 

Skin and eye protection should be observed (see MSDS). Do not use Earth Pro Chem Clean Green on hot surfaces and hot or running motors. 

Earth Pro Corinox does not require any cumbersome equipment such as manual or automatic injection systems; therefore, it eliminates the problems of equipment failure and the cost of equipment rental and maintenance. 

Avoid contact with eyes, skin and clothing. In case of contact, immediately wash with plenty of water. Flush eyes with flowing water immediately and continuously for twenty minutes. See a physician if necessary. Remove contaminated clothes and shoes. Wash before re-use. 

Actual amount required depends upon the amount of solids present in the system, concentrations for normal use range from 0.4 - 4.0 L/m³ (requirements are typically 1/4 that of lignosulphonate).

Earth Pro Di-Sperse 72L should be added directly to the mud system. This product is stable at high and low temperatures and has excellent freeze-thaw stability.

The thinning efficiency of Earth Pro Di-Sperse 72L is actually improved by the presence of moderate levels of calcium up to a maximum of 800-1000 mg/L.

Earth Pro Drilling Detergent L can be irritating to the skin and eyes. Inhalation may cause nausea, vomiting and dizziness. In case of skin contacts wash with water.

In case of eye contact flush with water for fifteen minutes and seek medical attention. If ingested induce vomiting immediately and get patient to a physician.

*Danger* - This product contains ethylene glycol and lack of attention may cause kidney and liver damage.

Defoaming is a complex reaction, therefore, pilot testing may be necessary to determine optimum treatment rates and methods. Recommended treatment concentrations will vary depending on the severity of foaming, however, 0.5-1.5 L/m³ will be effective in most cases.

For maximum effectiveness, Earth Pro Foam Slayer should be added directly to the fluid system, as close to the point to foaming as possible.

Although the use range can vary with well conditions the general addition rate would be 0.5-5 L/m³. It is indicated to maintain at all-time an adequate concentration of oil-wetting agent in the mud to prevent water-wetting of solids. Employ rubber gloves, rubber apron, and skin and eye protection and ensure mixing is done in an area with adequate ventilation.

Flash Point: >80°C (PMCC)

Because of its excellent dispersibility and mixing Alcomer 60RD can be added directly to the mud system without pre-wetting in a solvent.

A small hole should be cut into the bottom of the bag, allowing it to flow at a steady rate into the mud hopper. If necessary Alcomer 60RD can be prehydrated at concentrations of 10.0-15.0 kg/m³ in a separate tank and fed into the main circulating system to maintain concentrations of 2.0-6.0 kg/m³.

Alcomer 60RD becomes very slippery when it comes in contact with water. A spill should be cleaned up with an absorbent material. It is advisable to use a dust mask and eye protection while mixing all powdered products.

Mix Alcomer 755 / Zetag 7557 slowly into a chemical barrel or polymer mixing tank and allow product to hydrate. Avoid mixing too rapidly. Wear a mask and goggles to prevent dust inhalation and contact with eyes.

Alcomer 755 / Zetag 7557 becomes very slippery when it comes in contact with water, therefore spills should be cleaned up with an absorbent
material instead of water.

Cal Carb Supercal - Glass Rock may be added directly through the hopper. To minimize settling in the surface tanks, the fluid should be of sufficient viscosity, or the agitation such that the particles are kept in suspension. CF Desco II may cause irritation to the eyes. If contacted with the eyes, flush immediately with running water for at least fifteen minutes. If irritation develops, seek medical attention.

Although Citric Acid is of low hazard and toxicity, excess exposure to dust should be avoided to prevent irritation to the eyes, skin and respiratory tract. As with all organic material, caution is advised when storing or handling near strong oxidizing agents, alkali metals or strong bases.

Extra High Yield Bentonite is dry clay and therefore requires high shear and agitation for proper hydration. It should be mixed no faster than five minutes per sack and should always be mixed before polymers. Cold water increases mixing time.

Extra High Yield Bentonite loses effectiveness in hard, low pH or salt water. To achieve the maximum yield of 220-235 bbl, the makeup water should be treated with soda ash (sodium carbonate) to a pH of 8.0-9.0. Do not use salt water since it cannot be treated.

However, bypassing the shaker could result in plugged jets. It is advisable to use a dust mask and eye protection while mixing all powdered products.

Mix Earth Pro Claysperse L after mixing regular drilling additives such as viscosifying polymers. Add in batches at the suction side of the mud tank to create a sweep effect in the wellbore.

Earth Pro Claysperse L will thin back most drilling fluids and is most effective when mixed and pumped in only water or in polymer systems. Effectiveness will be reduced in bentonite slurries. When mixing in whole mud do so after the polymer has hydrated.

Under normal drilling conditions if a sticky clay seam is encountered add 2-3 L/m³ of fluid. If a mud ring is suspected add 2 visc cups of Earth Pro Claysperse L directly into the tool joint when making a connection.

In a recycled closed loop system if used as a thinner add sparingly at the front end of the system and check viscosity in the suction end
regularly so as to not over treat.

Earth Pro ProPac D is a dry polymer and should be added slowly through a high shear mixer to prevent lumps or fish eyes. It should not be added before bentonite since the yielded Earth Pro ProPac D will prevent the bentonite from hydrating.

Please note that the ratings have been calculated by actual field testing in a variety of well conditions and therefore may seem somewhat conservative in value.

Factors that affect flow rate include such parameters as the depth of submergence of the foot valve, tubing diameter, well casing diameter, the length of pump stroke and the speed of oscillation of the pump.

Obviously, the speed of oscillation is the primary factor in imparting momentum to the water column in the pump's tubing. Generally a pumping rate of 100 to 180 strokes per minute is recommended. The recommended stroke length is 4 to 6 inches, with a longer stroke performing better in deeper piezometers.

Greater submergence of the foot valve increases the pressure differential (the pressure difference between the water within the tubing and the head pressure outside the valve) that is created at the end of the upward pump stroke. Increasing the pressure differential increases the rate of water inflow through the valve at the end of the upward stroke, thereby increasing the flow rate.

Another factor affecting the flow rate with the inertial pump is size of the annular gap between the inertial pump tubing and the ID of the well casing. When the inertial pump is operating, the flexible tubing will tend to wobble from side to side within the well casing. This wobble results in some of the up and down movement applied at surface to the tubing not reaching the depth where the valve is located. For this reason, the stiffer High Density Polyethylene tubing is usually preferred in deeper monitoring wells (depth in excess of 60 – 70 feet). The inertial pump performs best in smaller diameter piezometers (4" or less).

Enviroplug Grout can be mixed and placed using most available pumping equipment. Although paddle type mixers and positive displacement pumps work best, mixing can also be done through re-circulating systems.

Maximum performance is achieved at a ratio of 1 bag to 14 gallons of water (30% solids). Since pumps such as double diaphragm or gear pumps may not produce enough pressure to place highly viscous mixtures, the ratio can be adjusted to 1 bag per 16 gallons of water and still achieve a good grout set.

As Enviroplug Grout is added to the make-up water, a pan-cake batter consistency is generated. Pumping at this time is recommended as it minimizes migration into formations and allows for continued hydration to take place down hole.

Provided local regulations allow, it is always recommended to withdraw the tremie line as grout is being pumped. This permits the grout to continue its set undisturbed, reduces pump pressure and minimizes unnecessary migration into formations.

  1. Obtain as much well information as possible for the Earth Pro ResinBond Cement plug, most important are depth, and/or BHST (°C.)
  2. Ensure well has been circulated clean, and that the well is dead.
  3. Measure accurately the correct amount of CLEAN, FRESH water into the mixing vessel. Five (5) liters of water per 20 kg pail of Earth Pro ResinBond Cement is required for proper hydration. Do NOT use produced or contaminated water sources for mixing Earth Pro ResinBond Cement. Uncontrollable slurry properties could result in job failure. Ensure the mixing water temperature is 15-25°C. Lower temperature water may result in difficulty mixing, while using very hot water may lead to loss of working time, again leading to job failure.
  4. In the following table, find the temperature closest to the BHT in the well being serviced. This corresponds to the proper amount of RB Catalyst L PER PAIL of Earth Pro ResinBond Cement required in this well situation.
  5. Carefully pour the required amount of RB Catalyst into the measuring vial. Shake lightly to level. Re-measure and add or remove Catalyst as required. Do NOT tamp, as product will compact, leading to overt treating. Slight overdosing or under dosing will not compromise the overall fluid properties of Earth Pro ResinBond Cement, but care in handling is always recommended.
  6. Add the required amount of RB Catalyst L FIRST to the mixing water. Stir for a minimum of 3-5 minutes to ensure proper dissolution.
  7. Add the Earth Pro ResinBond Cement to the water and RB Catalyst L while mixing steadily to avoid lumping, and mix until the slurry is visibly smooth.
  8. Pour into the dump bailer equipment and run to bottom and place plug as per usual procedure.
  9. Pull up slowly to avoid disturbing plug.
  10. Apply squeeze pressure if required.
