Fluids may be filtered through Activated Carbon or the Activated Carbon may also be added directly to a contaminated fluid to remove impurities. It is advisable to use a dust mask and eye protection while mixing all powdered products.

Earth Pro Can-Break ECA can be added directly to the mud system through the mixing hopper. It is advisable to use a dust mask and eye protection while mixing all powdered products. 

In case of contact, immediately flush with copious amounts of water. Flush eyes with flowing water immediately and continuously for 20 minutes. 

See a physician if necessary. Remove contaminated clothes and shoes. Wash clothes before re-use. Employ eye and skin protection when handling this product.

Under normal conditions, for a program with a corrosion level of +25 mpy, initially add one pail of Earth Pro Corinox per 16m³ of fluid to be treated. Sever corrosion may require higher concentrations.

To assess the requirement of Earth Pro Corinox in any condition, it is best to use a corrosion rate method such as corrosion ring analysis or an instantaneous corrosion monitor. 

If high corrosion rates persist and are determined to be oxygen related, supplemental additions of an oxygen scavenger such as sodium sulfite should be made to the system

Earth Pro Liquipac should be added slowly (30-40 minutes per pail) through the hopper or at point of agitation. Caution: It is slippery when spilt on the floor. See MSDS for handling and disposal.

When the solids content of oil-based fluids (high density or build-up of drilled solids) develop adverse effects on rheology Earth Pro OMD will provide a decrease in yield point and gel strengths improving the flow properties of the fluid.

Rates of addition will vary based on the severity of the solids build-up. Typical rates are between 2 – 8 L/m³.

Earth Pro Poly-Xan L disperses in water with moderate agitation. Continued mixing provides a smooth viscous fluid. It should be added slowly either through the hopper to allow proper dispersion.

Add Earth Pro Torq-Glide at the pump suction for reduction of torque and drag. It can be added as required to improve the sliding of the drill string when building or maintaining hole angle. Skin and eye protection should be observed.

Oilfield: Mix directly through the mud hopper at no faster than 4-6 minutes per sack. Avoid breathing dust. It is advisable to use a dust mask and eye protection while mixing all powdered products.

Cementing: In muds with a salinity of greater than 3500 mg/L, the bentonite must be first prehydrated in fresh water. Avoid breathing dust. 

Use 0.06-0.1 kg/m³ active ingredients based on the total volume of the drilling fluid system until bacteria control is achieved. A periodic dosage of 0.01-0.025 kg/m³ should be made to maintain bacterial control.

Alcomer 120L OS should be added to Extra High Yield Bentonite or Tru-Bore slurries to improve hole cleaning and hole stability. For this application, use a concentration of 0.5 – 1.5 quarts/100 gal.

Alcomer 120L OS may be used to formulate a clay-free low solids mud to stabilize water sensitive formations, reduce torque and pump pressure, and increase hole stability. For this application, use a concentration of 1.0-2.0 quarts/100 gal.

Alcomer 755 / Zetag 7557 should be added through a chemical barrel at the flow line or injected directly into a centrifuge from a premixed polymer tank, usually in a 0.5% stock solution.

Add an appropriate organic or inorganic coagulant before adding Alcomer 755 / Zetag 7557. It can also be used for fluid clarification when added at the centrifuge in sumpless drilling operations.

Mix directly into the hopper at 30 minutes per sack or add (with agitation) to a chemical barrel or polymer-mixing tank. Avoid mixing too rapidly. A mask and goggles should be worn to prevent inhalation of dust and contact with eyes.

Alkapam A-1103D becomes very slippery when coming in contact with water. A spill should be cleaned up with an absorbent material.

Aquabloc HT mixes readily and may be added to a mud system through the hopper at 10-15 minutes per sack. It is advisable to use a dust mask and eye protection while mixing all powdered products.

Calcium Chloride Powder is extremely corrosive. Utilize normal precautions for employee protection when handling chemical products. Use of appropriate respirator, gloves, goggles, and apron is recommended for employee comfort and protection.

  • Economical resource of hydroxyl ions to control pH levels
  • Concentrated chemical that is effective at small treatment levels
  • Can be used in most water based drilling fluids
  • Reduces corrosion of steel exposed to drilling fluids

Cellophane is used to provide a sealing agent supplement to other lost circulation material in water based drilling muds. It is also a basic additive in cement slurries, providing a matting effect in the control of losses. Typical rates of addition up to 2% by wt. cement are used as a preventative measure.

Chemul RHM is used to help increase low shear rheological properties. It helps in the suspension and transport of cuttings in highly deviated and horizontal wellbores. Chemul RHM helps reduce barite sag or settling in directional wells.

Although the use range may vary with well conditions the general recommended treatment is (0.7 – 4.2 L/m³) of Chemul RHM.

Modern

Emul-Break can be added directly to the mud on surface or through the mixing system. Avoid inhalation of vapors. Do not get on skin, in eyes or on clothing. Keep container closed when not in use. Wear suitable protection for eyes and skin when handling. Use with adequate ventilation. Avoid contact with incompatible materials.

Store in cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from sources of heat, ignition and sparks. Use proper grounding techniques if product is classed as flammable or combustible. Avoid using natural rubber, use neoprene.

*Caution*: Emul-Break is a surface-active demulsifier. It is a respiratory and digestive tract irritant that should be handled with care.

Gilsonite is relatively stable and of low hazard. However it should not be stored or used near strong oxidizing agents such as chlorates, nitrates or peroxides. Excessive dust is subject to combustion or explosion upon contact with spark or open flame. Use good industrial hygiene practice to avoid eye and excess skin contact. Wear a protective dust mask and goggles when handling and mixing.

Glide Graph is added to the mud system through the mud-mixing hopper. Because it is extremely fine, it is recommended that a dust mask and goggles be worn while the graphite is being mixed.

Note: Glide Graph will have the same effect as ball bearings on any hard surface. Post warning signs if spilled and sweep up immediately.

Mix directly through the mud hopper. Addition of Caustic Soda (or equivalent) will be required to maintain the pH at 9.0 or higher. It is advisable to use a dust mask and other approved protection apparel while mixing all powdered products.

Premix in water in the chemical barrel and add slowly to the system. Excess lime treatment will cause thickening of a bentonite based mud system.

Hydrated Lime gives off heat when mixed with water. Strong solutions have a high pH and may cause skin burns. Avoid contact with skin and eyes and wear protective clothing and goggles when handling and mixing. Store in a dry place.

Hyperdrill AF 207RD is added either at the flow line to promote solids settling in the sump or at a point prior to mechanical separation equipment.

A 0.5% stock solution is most commonly prepared using (1) one viscosity cup of polymer per 50 gallons of fresh water. It must be mixed slowly to prevent “humping” and the subsequent loss of polymer at the shaker screen.

Hyperdrill AF 207RD becomes very slippery when it comes in contact with water. A spill should be cleaned up with an absorbent material. It is advisable to use a dust mask and eye protection while mixing all powdered products.

Mix Hyperdrill CP 905H slowly into a chemical barrel or polymer mixing tank and allow product to hydrate (approximately 1 hour). Avoid mixing too rapidly. Wear a mask and goggles to prevent dust inhalation and contact with eyes.

Hyperdrill CP 905H becomes very slippery when it comes in contact with water, therefore spills should be cleaned up with an absorbent material instead of water.

Mix Hyperdrill CP 944 slowly into a chemical barrel or polymer mixing tank and allow product to hydrate (approximately 1 hour). Avoid mixing too rapidly. Wear a mask and goggles to prevent dust inhalation and contact with eyes.

Hyperdrill CP 944 becomes very slippery when it comes in contact with water, therefore spills should be cleaned up with an absorbent material instead of water.

Kelzan XCD disperses in water with moderate agitation. Continued mixing provides a smooth viscous fluid. Kelzan XCD should be added slowly to the active system to avoid lumping or fish-eyes, which may occur if the polymer is not allowed to properly disperse.

Mix Magnafloc 430 / Zetag 7692 slowly into a chemical barrel or polymer mixing tank and allow product to hydrate. Avoid mixing too rapidly. Wear a mask and goggles to prevent dust inhalation and contact with eyes.

  • Readily available, economical and requires low treatment levels
  • Increases temperature range of polymers
  • Provides effective buffering action in high hardness and saturated salt brines

Solution preparation in pH neutral waters is rapid; however, attention to water temperature is necessary as cold waters require a much longer hydration time.

In high pH waters Natrosol Hi-Vis will dissolve much faster regardless of water temperature, however this is not recommended. Laboratory testing is recommended for loading confirmation and application. This HEC is compatible in fresh water, sea water, and salt solutions up to
saturation.

Store in a cool, dry place away from incompatible materials. Wear the appropriate safety goggles and protective equipment when handling this product.

Mix directly into mud hopper. Avoid mixing too rapidly. A mask and goggles should be worn to prevent inhalation of dust and contact with the eyes. Fresh air ventilation should be provided in the mixing area.

Prima-Seal is a lost circulation material, which may be used by itself or in conjunction with other lost circulation additives.

Generally, its use may be based on the following criteria:

  • Prima-Seal Coarse - seals large fractures, requires large jets (16 mm or larger) or an open watercourse.
  • Prima-Seal Medium - seals fine fractures and porous zones, should be used with jets larger than 10.3 mm.

Depending on the severity, the total lost circulation material concentration may be as high as 75.0 kg/m³ of whole mud.

Storage Precaution: Calcium oxide on its own will not burn. However, bulk powder may heat spontaneously when it comes into contact with water. Humidity or contact with water may generate sufficient heat to ignite flammable and combustible materials. In addition, the reaction of calcium oxide with a number of commonly encountered materials can generate sufficient heat to ignite nearby combustible materials. Store in a dry place.

Handling Precaution: Lime gives off heat when mixed with water. Due to its reactivity with water, all precautions should be taken to avoid skin or eye contact. It will cause severe burns to the eyes and skin. Wear goggles and protective clothing when handling this product.

Avoid inhalation of vapors. Do not get on skin, in eyes or on clothing. Keep container closed when not in use. Wear suitable protection for eyes and skin when handling. Use with adequate ventilation. Avoid contact with incompatible materials. Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area.

Sea Mud is mixed through the mud hopper and requires more shear (than bentonite) in order to attain its maximum yield. This product contains crystalline silica known to be carcinogenic to humans.

It is not uncommon to observe an increase in viscosity as a result of the high shear rate experienced by the drilling mud as it passes through the bit nozzles.

Consequently, although Sea Mud may be mixed as rapidly as 5 minutes per sack, allowance must be made for the increased viscosity arising from circulation through the bit.

It is advisable to use a dust mask and eye protection while mixing all powdered products.

Soda Ash is added directly through the mud-mixing hopper. It should be stored in a cool, dry place. Avoid contact with strong acids in confined areas. Avoid inhalation of dust or contact with the eyes. If contact is made, rinse thoroughly with water for 15 minutes and seek medical attention if necessary. It is advisable to use a dust mask and eye protection while mixing all powdered products.

Appearance: Green-yellow liquid

Specific Gravity: 1.17 @ 20°C

Linear

  • Microtox threshold that exceeds normal use concentrations
  • More efficient than regular starches
  • Nearly as efficient as cellulosics at controlling fluid loss
  • Non-fermenting and requires no biocide under normal conditions
  • Stable against drilling fluid enzyme contamination that could result in viscosity breakdown
  • Enhances shear thinning

T-352 Biocide is corrosive and will cause irreversible eye damage. Wear suitable protection for eyes and skin and ensure there is adequate ventilation in the mixing area.

Torq-Trol W can be added directly to the active mud system at any point of agitation.

As a cure for lost circulation, mix Walnut into the mud or in a lost circulation pill in concentrations of 10.0-30.0 kg/m³. It is advisable to use a dust mask and eye protection while mixing all powdered products.

Zinc Carbonate can be added directly to the mud hopper. It is advisable to use a dust mask and eye protection while mixing all powdered products.

Typical use on a small scale is for dump-bail treatments. The product is batched in small volumes according to the following blend table, and “dumped” down the wellbore using conventional rig equipment. After a period of time the cement sets, providing a small, hard plug in the problem area.

At temperatures below 30°C, calcium chloride can be added in a small amount, to accelerate the set time. Typical dosage is 0.5-1% w/w, depending on well depth, and wellbore temperature. Slurry viscosity and working time will be reduced proportionately.

Exercise extreme care in the addition of calcium chloride. In itself calcium chloride is a corrosive material, and will cause skin burns. If poorly mixed, it can cause excessive heat of hydration, potentially leading to a flash set of the cement.

Earth Pro Slurry Master is a toxic material. Store in a cool dry place, away from incompatible materials. It contains alcohol ethoxylates and mineral oil, which may cause irritation to sensitive skin areas. Wear the appropriate safety goggles and protective equipment when handling this product.

Always store Earth Pro FLA-6 in a dry location. It will be stable at elevated temperatures, although such conditions are not recommended under any circumstances. Use good industrial hygiene to avoid eye contact or inhalation. Wear appropriate safety equipment when handling and mixing.

RB Catalyst must always be added to the mixing water FIRST. Failure to do so may result in shortened working time leading to potential plug failure. Always keep Earth Pro ResinBond pail and RB Catalyst containers closed until use. Avoid contact with water or excessive moisture. Wear the appropriate safety goggles and protective equipment when handling this product.

Typical application is in the range of 0.05% to 1.0% wt. See table below for expansive effect:

Expanding cements prepared by the use of aluminum powder have found use in shallow well applications, especially where the problem of gas migration occurs.

Oilfield Cementing: Typical concentration can vary from 0.5% to 2% BWOC. CRM-22B has a synergistic effect on slurry fluid loss control. It can be used to disperse weighted slurries up to 2250 kg/m³, but addition of this product to low-density slurries may result in a large excess of free water and particle segregation.

Excessive dispersant loading can lead to slurry disintegration, severely retarded set and possible bridging off mid-job. This is typical of cement
dispersants, and laboratory testing should be carried out before recommending for field use. CRM-22B is not recommended at temperatures exceeding 60°C.

Earth Pro Defoamer Powder is non-hazardous. Store in a cool dry place and away from incompatible materials. Earth Pro Defoamer Powder components may cause irritation to sensitive skin areas. Wear the appropriate safety goggles and protective equipment when handling this product.

Wear a mask and goggles while mixing Guar Gum HP 4501P to prevent dust inhalation and contact with eyes. Guar Gum HP 4501P becomes very slippery when it comes in contact with water, therefore spills should be cleaned up with an absorbent material instead of water.

Industrial Moulding Plaster is typically dry blended in the cement. For further handling and safety instructions consult Material Safety Data Sheet.

LTR is most often dry blended in cement. LTR should be stored in a dry place to prevent caking as a result of absorption of moisture. As with all organic materials, caution is advised when storing or handling near strong oxidizing agents such as chlorates, nitrates or peroxides. Avoid excess dust build up as contact with a spark or open flame could result in combustion or explosion. Microspheres are compatible with all classes of cement but must be dry blended and not premixed in the water. Use good industrial hygiene practice and wear goggles and a dust mask when handling the material.

Store in a cool dry place, away from incompatible materials. Sweep any spilled material into disposal container. Do not wet area, as material becomes slippery when moistened. Avoid inhaling or ingesting dust. Wear the appropriate safety goggles and protective equipment when handling this product.

Potash mixes readily with water and can be mixed directly into the water. The presence of salt depresses the ability of bentonite to extend a cement slurry. For this reason pre-hydration of the bentonite is necessary when combining salt in a bentonite/cement blend. Avoid breathing dust while mixing.

Linear

Silica Fume (Undensified) is very stable and is not susceptible to fire, explosion or decomposition. The finely divided dust may cause eye and respiratory irritation. Use good industrial hygiene practice and wear goggles and a dust mask when handling the material.

Sodium Glucoheptonate is not hazardous. Avoid excessively humid conditions. Store in a cool dry place. Avoid inhalation or ingestion of product.

Stimpro 763 is a flammable liquid. Use good industrial safety procedures when handling this material.

The product is corrosive and requires special handling procedures. Refer to Material Safety Data Sheets for handling instructions.

Quantities of Barite to be used and the volume increase may be quickly determined by dividing the desired weight by 2 to give the number of sacks required per 100 barrels of mud for each 0.1 ppg increase. For each 15 sacks added there will be one barrel volume increase.

Placement of the Grout-Well products is best done using a positive displacement or progressive cavity pump. When pumping must be done with gear or diaphragm pumps, you may have to use additional make-up water to insure pumpability due to the limited pressure generated by these types of pumps.

When adding the grouts to make-up water, the slurry will resemble pancake batter, a creamy consistency with lumps. This is the ideal time to pump the fluid since all the bentonite has not fully hydrated. Once in place, the particles continue to swell, sealing off cracks and crevices while gelling to form its caulk-like consistency.

Provided local regulations allow, it is always recommended that the tremie line be withdrawn as the grout is being pumped. This permits the grout to continue its set undisturbed, reduces pump pressure, and minimizes unnecessary migration into surrounding formations.

Earth Pro Bio Bear Rod Grease can be applied like normal rod grease by hand swabbing it on. It is firmer in texture than traditional rod grease

Poly-Pro should be mixed slowly through the hopper and allowed to hydrate for 10-15 minutes prior to use. Poly-Pro is sensitive to high calcium levels, so the make up water should be treated with soda ash. Use a concentration of 0.3-1.0 lb of Poly-Pro per 100 gal of drilling fluid.

Poly-Pro can be chemically broken down with household bleach (5% sodium hypochlorite) using a concentration of one gal of bleach per 100 gal of Poly-Pro fluid. Do not use solid calcium hypochlorite or perfumed bleach.

As a flocculant Hyperdrill AD 855 can be added directly to the flow line, or it may be dispersed in water in the chemical barrel prior to adding to the flow line. Hyperdrill AD 855 is very slippery if spilled. A spill should be cleaned up with an absorbent material. (Do not add water to a spill).

Modern

Handling: For industrial use only. Heat is generated upon dilution with water. When diluting, add product slowly to water with agitation. Never add water to the acid as severe splashing and reactivity will result. Always add acid to water. ATTENTION: This container hazardous when emptied. The Lever Pump is a manual lever suitable for use with the Standard Flow, High Flow and Low Flow Inertial Pumping Systems.

The Lever Pump is fully adjustable and will adapt to almost any size casing or protective well casing. An above ground well completion is required in order to use the Lever Pump.

Using the Lever Pump can make sample collection easier because it supports the discharge end of the pump's tubing, allowing the field technician to operate the inertial pump with one hand and hold a sample container with the other. The tubing clamp is hinged, which helps prevent pump tubing from abrading against well casing.

The PowerPump 2 is a gasoline powered automatic actuator for use with the Standard Flow System, High Flow System and Low Flow Inertial Pumping systems.

A cement specimen is placed into a sleeve which is then inserted into the Modified Hassler style test cell. Nitrogen is displaced through the cement at various flow rates to determine the permeability.

The tool outputs standard survey data, such as recorded station depth, inclination, azimuth, gravity highside, magnetic toolface, temperature and more. The magnetometers have been calibrated with high precision and the tool will deliver a reading of the magnitude of the local magnetic field which can be used to detect anomalies in the local Earth magnetic field to identify survey stations of low quality.

Linear

Calcium can be dry blended or prehydrated in water. The mixing of calcium and water generates heat. 

In cable tool operations, these granular Enviroplug No.8 can be used to grout the casing as it is being driven. A hole should be dug at the surface 6 to 8 inches larger than casing and 12 to 14 inches deep. Once the driving has begun, fill this hole with Enviroplug No.8. The granules will follow the drive shoe downward as driving continues creating a bentonite collar around the casing.

Dry Driven Casing: In cable tool operations, these granular Enviroplug No.20 can be used to grout the casing as it is being driven. Pumpable Grout Seals: Enviroplug No.20 can be used in a pumpable slurry mix to grout wells or abandon holes. Agitate until the polymer is dispersed, then add 50 pounds of Enviroplug No.20. Pump immediately.

Oilfield Cementing: Typical concentration can vary from 0.5% to 2% BWOC. CRM-19 can be used to disperse weighted slurries up to 2250 kg/m³, but use in low-density slurries can result in an excess of free water leading to particle segregation. This is typical of cement dispersants, and laboratory testing should be carried out before recommending for field use. Excessive dispersant loading can lead to slurry disintegration, severely retarded set and possible bridging off mid-job.

Other: CRM-19 can be used as a dispersing mechanism for manufacture of gypsum wallboard products, and other similar industrial applications.

Direct contact with wet cement should be avoided. If contact occurs, the skin should be washed with water as soon as possible. Exposure can cause serious, potentially irreversible tissue destruction in the form of chemical (caustic) burns. If cement gets into the eyes, immediately rinse thoroughly with water and seek medical attention.

Aquatreat H2S can be added directly to the mud system or metered into the system with a positive displacement pump. Aquatreat H2S is very toxic avoid breathing vapor and contact with eyes, skin or clothing. Keep container closed when not in use. Optimal treatment concentration will vary depending on the specific application. 

Earth Pro Bitu-Seal is typically used in the concentrations ranging from 10 to 30 kg/m3 and is added directly to the mud system. Avoid breathing dust.

Consult the MSDS, safety posters, and/or product label before use, and use personal protective equipment as advised.

Earth Pro Brine-Lube reduces friction in areas where the drill string comes into contact with formation or casing. It may be added as a percentage (1.0-3.0% by volume) of the fluid system where torque and drag are a continuous problem.

Soft shale will have fewer tendencies to adhere to bits and drill collars when Earth Pro Brine-Lube is present in the drilling fluid.

To minimize bit balling add 6.0-12.0 L/m³ Earth Pro Brine-Lube and maintain this concentration with additions at the pump suction.

To help prevent differential sticking maintain 15-25.0 L/m³ of Earth Pro Brine-Lube in the mud system.

Earth Pro Brine-Oxy can be added directly to the mud system. The required amount is adjusted based on the amount of dissolved oxygen.

Maintain an excess of Earth Pro Brine-Oxy at any time. Residual scavenger in the mud can be measured with test kit purchased through Di-Corp.

Avoid contact with eyes and skin. In case of contact, immediately wash with plenty of water. Flush eyes with flowing water immediately and continuously for twenty minutes. See a physician if necessary. Remove contaminated clothes and shoes and wash before re-use.

Oilfield Cementing: Typical use on a small scale is for dump-bail treatments. At temperatures below 30°C, calcium chloride can be added in a small amount, to accelerate the set time if required. Typical dosage is 0.5-1% w/w, depending on well depth and wellbore temperature. Slurry viscosity and working time will be reduced substantially. (Exercise extreme care in the addition of calcium chloride. In itself calcium chloride is a corrosive material and will cause skin burns. If poorly mixed, it can cause excessive heat through hydration, potentially leading to a flash set of the cement before placement has occurred.)

Oilfield Cementing, High Temperature Application: This cement blend is not designed for use where wellbore temperatures exceed 30-40°C during plug placement. However, Earth Pro Thermal 40 Cement is stable to +/-360°C, providing the optimum slurry density of 1880-1900 kg/m³ is maintained. Long-term effects (30 days or more at 300-340°C) indicate only minor loss in compressive strength, and a slight increase in permeability.

Earth Pro Thermal 40 Cement will meet the ERCB Specification in Directive 20, Open Hole Abandonment Requirements, Section 4.2, “Open-Hole Abandonment of Wells That Have Penetrated Oil Sands Zones”, and will provide a minimum compressive strength of 3500 kPa in 48 hours at temperatures up to 360°C.

Oilfield Cementing: Typical use on a small scale is for dump-bail treatments. The product is batched in small volumes according to the following blend table, and “dumped” down the wellbore using wireline equipment. The slurry flows out and the bail is retracted slowly and removed, allowing the plug to set in place.

Note: Strengths are for reference only. Actual values may vary due to changing wellbore conditions, variations in density, accuracy of mixing volumes and water quality. Samples should be taken at the time of treatment and observed at estimated wellbore temperature for strength development. Samples will not set on surface without application of heat.

For each 20 kg bag of Earth Pro Warm Plug Cement being mixed, measure 10 liters of fresh water into the mixing vessel. Begin stirring the water in a moderate fashion, and start adding the Earth Pro Warm Plug Cement. Once all the sacks are cut and added to the slurry, continue mixing for at least another 5-10 minutes to ensure proper dispersion and all lumps are removed. At this point the mix can be transferred to the dump bail.

As product is mixed with water, some heat evolution will occur. Caution should be exercised to mix continually until ready to place the slurry in the dump-bail. Since Earth Pro Warm Plug Cement is caustic in nature (pH 10.0-12.0), it will cause severe burns to eyes sensitive skin areas. Wear the appropriate safety goggles and protective equipment when handling this product.

Barite can be mixed through the mud hopper as rapidly as needed. When large quantities are added to a mud system it may be necessary to add water to prevent mud dehydration. Additional water is required when blending Barite slurries (Barite Water Requirement = 0.04 L H2O/kg Barite).

Calcium can be dry blended or prehydrated in water. The mixing of calcium chloride and water generates considerable heat.

CRM-22B can be dry blended or prehydrated as required. Avoid breathing dust. Wear the appropriate protective equipment when handling this product.

Cal Carb 325 may be added directly at the suction with agitation or through the mud hopper. To avoid settling out in the surface tanks the fluid viscosity should be raised sufficiently to provide adequate suspension. It is advisable to use a dust mask and eye protection while mixing all powdered products.

Mixing ratios are based on the use of fresh water. Water purity will affect bentonite performance. For best results, acidic and hard make up water should be pre-treated with Soda Ash to a pH of 8.5 - 9.0.

Premium Gel mixing ratio in lbs. per 100 gallons of water:

The combination of fresh water, Therm-Ex Grout and silica sand constitute the system for back filling geothermal loops. Use locally available dry silica sand. For best results, use sand ranging in size from 30 mesh to 70 mesh (AFS GFN particle size classification 38 to 50).

Add the Therm-Ex Grout to the water while agitating. Mix for approximately one minute, then add the sand. Agitate until the sand is uniformly dispersed and pump into place using a tremie line.

For best results, place the tremie line near the bottom of the loop and pump into place. Providing local regulations allow, slowly extracting the tremie line as you come up the hole reduces pump pressure, aids the grout in setting quicker, and reduces the opportunity for formation
damage.

Earth Pro BioFoam concentration should be 2-6L per 400L water for regular foam and gel foam applications. For dust suppressant, 0.25-0.5L per 400L and for mist drilling, 1-2L per 400L water.

When used alone for coring in competent rock the concentration of Earth Pro CombiVis L should be 2L/m³. In loose or fractured rock or for optimal reduction in torque increase additions to 2-4L/m³.

Earth Pro HydraVis D is a dry powdered product so it should be mixed very slowly and at a point of agitation or through a hopper to prevent fish eyes and clumping. Do not mix Earth Pro HydraVis D any faster than 5 mins/kg.

Earth Pro HydraVis D mixing ratio in lbs. per 500L of water:

For optimum performance, Earth Pro RockBond should be added to a system before the troublesome zone is penetrated or as soon after as possible.

Premix the prescribed amount in the surface system by adding it at a point of agitation near a mixer in the tank.

For enhancing filter cake in troublesome shale and sands use a concentration of 9.0 to 17.0 kg/m³. For shock treatment of a zone that has already been penetrated mix 20-30 kg/m³ in the initial 2-3 m³ of fluid then maintain the concentration at 5-10 kg/m³ until the zone has been completely drilled and 1hr afterwards.

When used within Mineral Exploration, hydration is almost immediate. 1-1.5 kg/m³ is generally sufficient for normal vertical drilling applications.

In unconsolidated or broken formations that are prone to sloughing or in water reactive clay / shale the concentration should be increased to 1.5-2.5 kg/m³. This product is sensitive to high salinity, if mixing in salt water - contact Di-Corp for specialized instruction.

When used within Horizontal Directional Drilling, 0.5-1 kg/m³ can be used as an additive to Tru-Bore based fluid to enhance viscosity properties and proved shale and clay encapsulation.

Thoroughly mix 1 to 3 liters of Earth Pro TurboCut into 100 liters of fresh water or drilling fluid, depending on drilling conditions. Earth Pro TurboCut can be added to polymer and bentonite drilling systems.

Geo-Flo is a dry powdered product so it should be mixed very slowly and at a point of agitation or through a hopper to prevent fisheyes and clumping. Do not mix Geo-Flo any faster than 5 mins/kg.

Geo-Flo mixing ratio in lbs. per 500L of water:

  • Normal conditions 2-3 kg
  • Sand and gravel 3-4 kg

Mix the G-Stop directly in the tank with 200 times its volume water. Wait 10 minutes. Inject the mixture into the drill string. Inject a volume of water to move mixture to the correct location. Wait 20 minutes. Drill. If the problem persists attempt treatment a second time.

Place 1 gallon of dry G-Stop in a 20-liter pail with 10 liters of water. Allow G-Stop to partially swell. Add 1 liter of partially swollen G-Stop to the rods after the core tube has been pulled. Pump down hole and replace inner tube. Repeat as necessary to stop loss.

Modified Starch is more efficient than regular starches and nearly as efficient as PAC at controlling fluid loss. It has a synergistic effect with bentonite and other polymers which enhances the shear thinning properties of drilling fluids and results in excellent hole cleaning at low shear rates. Modified Starch can also coat clay and shale particles to control clay dispersion, slow well bore destabilization, and facilitate the removal of drilled solids on surface.

Modified Starch can be combined with PAC as a low cost extender. Blends typically contain 1:1 – 3:1 Modified Starch/PAC. Modified Starch is effective in all types of water-based fluids and at temperature up to 150°C with the use of an oxygen scavenger. It is non-fermenting and requires no biocide under normal conditions. Filter cakes containing Modified Starch can be easily removed using Can-Break ECA.

Modified Starch is used in concentrations ranging from 4.0-12.0 kg/m³, depending on fluid loss requirements and the amount of solids in the system.

The Inertial Pump has a substantial capacity for developing monitoring wells because of the cyclical action of the valve in the well screen area. This characteristic can be utilized to remove silt and sediment that has accumulated in the foot of the monitoring well and can also be used to remove fines from the sand pack and well screen.

The well development capacity of the High Flow D-32 foot valve can be enhanced by installing a SBD-32 Surge Block to the D-32 foot valve. The Surge Block is an excellent well development tool. It simply press fits over the body of the Standard Flow Foot Valve or High Flow Foot Valve (D-25 or D-32).

The Surge Block effectively increases the outside diameter of the D-25 or D-32 foot valve to 1-7/8” In 2” wells and 3-7/8” OD in 4” wells, reducing the annular gap between the valve and the inside of the well screen to approximately 1/16”. This results in a significant increase in the surging action of the valve.

The use of the Inertial Pump and Surge Block together is one of the most effective methods for developing monitoring wells because it simultaneously surges and pumps the well. This frees up silt and sediment in the sand pack and screen and breaks down bridging, drawing these particles it into the well and then removes this material from the well.

The recommended method for developing a monitoring well with the Inertial Pump and Surge Block is to begin the development process with the Surge Block near the top of the well screen. Operate the pump with the Surge Block in this position until the turbidity level of the water being delivered from the pump decreases to an acceptable level. Once this level is reached then the Surge Block is lowered in the well screen one to two feet and the process is repeated. Developing wells in this manner is one of the best methods, often resulting in turbidity levels below 10 NTUs.

The development capacity of the High Flow System is greater than that of the Standard Flow System because the pump generates a higher flow rate and the larger diameter tubing is stiffer and flexes less in 2” monitoring wells.

The Micro Flow System is also useful for sampling in damaged or obstructed monitoring wells. The maximum outside diameter of the Micro Flow System is 3/8” (10mm). This small maximum diameter allows this pump to fit into many tight situations that outer devices can't get near.

Used as a Slurry Fluid: Maintaining formation integrity while cutting lays the foundation that keeps jacking pressures low. Using Micro-Gel as the slurry fluid limits negative impact on soils and maintains the bore wall continuity. Mixing rate should be 320 pounds of Micro-Gel per 1000 gallons (144 kg/3.8 m³ ). Fluid characteristics will have a Marsh Funnel Viscosity of 45 to 48 sec/qt.

Used as a Lubricating Fluid: For best results, a venturi or other high-shear equipment should be used. Mix rate is 22.5 pounds per barrel or 535 pounds per 1000 gallons (241 kg/3.8 m³ ) of make-up water. This mix ratio will yield a Marsh Funnel Viscosity of 80 to 85 sec/qt.

Super-Sweep Fiber is easily added and pre-mixed in the drilling fluid at various concentration levels, depending on the level of solids suspension desired. In water, a minimum dosage of one box (15 pounds) of Super-Sweep Fiber per 30 barrel sweep has shown to be an effective addition level to remove cuttings and solids.

In drilling mud, a minimum dosage of one box (15 pounds) of Super-Sweep Fiber per 60 barrel sweep has proven effective. The fluid with the Super-Sweep Fiber is then introduced by pump suction to the drilling fluids system and circulated through the drilling system. The Super-Sweep Fiber and transported cuttings are removed by the shaker or discharged to the reserve pit.

When faced with the challenge of viscosifying saline water sources that exist in marine environments and in some cases terrestrial water sources Earth Pro SaltVis L rises to the occasion.

Concentration depends on the desired viscosity but most applications will see good hole cleaning and lubrication affect with a 2-4L/m³ concentration of Earth Pro SaltVis L.

Earth Pro SaltVis L can be mixed quickly to the desired concentration by pouring it in at a point of agitation in the mixing tanks or adding it through a hopper system.

Requires minimal shearing to yield very consistently and quickly compared to semi synthetic or natural polymers.

Earth Pro Brine-Cor should be added directly to the mud system. It dissolves readily even in the heavier brines.

Diamond Gel disperses in fresh water like no bentonite before it. The “norm” is to experience clumps of semi hydrated bentonite that can build up on core tooling or create a mess to clean up in a mud tank. Not Diamond Gel.  Mixing Diamond Gel is as easy as adding to a point of agitation in a mud tank or ideally through a mixing hopper as you would mix any bentonite.  Shearing with an in tank mixer is generally all that is required to yield a smooth high viscosity drilling fluid.

Diamond Gel can be used in cement + bentonite grouts without ill effect on cement making it a perfect one bag solution in environmental drilling as well. Always mix cement first then add bentonite.

Starting concentrations for most simple systems build of only Diamond Gel generally require less than 2 bags per 1000L. Consult with a Di-Corp representative to develop a fluids plan that works specifically for your application.

Earth Pro Chem Clean Green can be applied neat or diluted with water depending on the difficulty of a particular cleanup.

For extra heavy duty degreasing, Earth Pro Chem Clean Green can be used full strength. For routine cleaning, use Earth Pro Chem Clean Green can be diluted at 1:5 water. 

Skin and eye protection should be observed (see MSDS). Do not use Earth Pro Chem Clean Green on hot surfaces and hot or running motors. 

Earth Pro Corinox does not require any cumbersome equipment such as manual or automatic injection systems; therefore, it eliminates the problems of equipment failure and the cost of equipment rental and maintenance. 

Avoid contact with eyes, skin and clothing. In case of contact, immediately wash with plenty of water. Flush eyes with flowing water immediately and continuously for twenty minutes. See a physician if necessary. Remove contaminated clothes and shoes. Wash before re-use. 

Actual amount required depends upon the amount of solids present in the system, concentrations for normal use range from 0.4 - 4.0 L/m³ (requirements are typically 1/4 that of lignosulphonate).

Earth Pro Di-Sperse 72L should be added directly to the mud system. This product is stable at high and low temperatures and has excellent freeze-thaw stability.

The thinning efficiency of Earth Pro Di-Sperse 72L is actually improved by the presence of moderate levels of calcium up to a maximum of 800-1000 mg/L.

Earth Pro Drilling Detergent L can be irritating to the skin and eyes. Inhalation may cause nausea, vomiting and dizziness. In case of skin contacts wash with water.

In case of eye contact flush with water for fifteen minutes and seek medical attention. If ingested induce vomiting immediately and get patient to a physician.

*Danger* - This product contains ethylene glycol and lack of attention may cause kidney and liver damage.

Defoaming is a complex reaction, therefore, pilot testing may be necessary to determine optimum treatment rates and methods. Recommended treatment concentrations will vary depending on the severity of foaming, however, 0.5-1.5 L/m³ will be effective in most cases.

For maximum effectiveness, Earth Pro Foam Slayer should be added directly to the fluid system, as close to the point to foaming as possible.

Although the use range can vary with well conditions the general addition rate would be 0.5-5 L/m³. Because of its excellent dispersibility and mixing Alcomer 60RD can be added directly to the mud system without pre-wetting in a solvent.

A small hole should be cut into the bottom of the bag, allowing it to flow at a steady rate into the mud hopper. If necessary Alcomer 60RD can be prehydrated at concentrations of 10.0-15.0 kg/m³ in a separate tank and fed into the main circulating system to maintain concentrations of 2.0-6.0 kg/m³.

Alcomer 60RD becomes very slippery when it comes in contact with water. A spill should be cleaned up with an absorbent material. It is advisable to use a dust mask and eye protection while mixing all powdered products.

Mix Alcomer 755 / Zetag 7557 slowly into a chemical barrel or polymer mixing tank and allow product to hydrate. Avoid mixing too rapidly. Wear a mask and goggles to prevent dust inhalation and contact with eyes.

Alcomer 755 / Zetag 7557 becomes very slippery when it comes in contact with water, therefore spills should be cleaned up with an absorbent
material instead of water.

Storage Precautions: Earth Pro Thermal 40 Cement is not hazardous. However, if product becomes wet through unforeseen circumstances, some heat will be given off due to hydration. Avoid excessively humid conditions. Store in a cool dry place.

Handling Precautions: As product is mixed with water, some heat evolution will occur. Caution should be exercised to mix continually until ready to place the slurry in the dump-bail. Factors that affect flow rate include such parameters as the depth of submergence of the foot valve, tubing diameter, well casing diameter, the length of pump stroke and the speed of oscillation of the pump. 

Obviously, the speed of oscillation is the primary factor in imparting momentum to the water column in the pumps tubing. Generally a pumping rate of 100 to 180 strokes per minute is recommended. The recommended stroke length is 4 to 6 inches with a longer stroke performing better in deeper piezometers. 

Greater submergence of the foot valve increases the pressure differential, (the pressure difference between the water within the tubing and the head pressure outside the valve) that is created at the end of the upward pump stroke. Increasing the pressure differential increase the rate of water inflow through the valve at the end of the upward stroke thereby increasing the flow rate. 

Another factor affecting the flow rate with the inertial pump is the size of the annular gap between the Inertial Pump tubing and the ID of the well casing. When the Inertial Pump is operating the flexible tubing will tend to wobble from side to side within the well casing. This wobble results in some of the up and down movement applied at surface to the tubing not reaching the depth where the valve is located. For this reason the stiffer High Density Polyethylene tubing is usually preferred in deeper monitoring wells (depth in excess of 60 – 70 feet). The Inertial Pump performs best in smaller diameter piezometers (4” or less). 

As a general guide, in most 2” monitoring wells, the High Flow System D-32 will usually produce a flow rate of about 1 to 3 gallon per minute given 20 to 30 feet of valve submergence. The High Flow System has a substantial lift capacity in 2” diameter piezometers. Some customers have reported lifts approaching 300 feet.

Enviroplug Tablets should be poured directly into the hole or placed by the tremie method. As with gravel packing, the desired result is a bentonite pack. Therefore, take care in placing the tablets to prevent bridging.

Mixing Procedure
For each 20 kg bag of Earth Pro Hotset Cement being mixed, measure 10 liters of fresh water into the mixing vessel. Begin stirring the water in a moderate fashion, and start adding the Earth Pro Hotset Cement. Once all the sacks are cut and added to the slurry, continue mixing for at least another 5-10 minutes to ensure proper dispersion and all lumps are removed. At this point the mix can be transferred to the dump bail.

Storage Precautions
Earth Pro Hotset Cement is not hazardous. However, if product becomes wet through unforeseen circumstances, some heat will be given off due to hydration. Avoid excessively humid conditions. Store in a cool dry place.

Handling Precautions
As product is mixed with water, some heat evolution will occur. Caution should be exercised to mix continually until ready to place the slurry in the dump-bail. Earth Pro Hotset Cement is caustic in nature (pH 10-12) and will cause severe burns to eyes and sensitive skin areas. Wear the appropriate safety goggles and protective equipment when handling this product.
